Spoilers
This has been on my watch list for a while it really has & tonight was the night. I had an evening free with time to concentrate & i just thought this was the time to do it. So here i am on a saturday night watching Drive… which i didnt realise until after i was done was on my movie wall watch list ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. So Ryan Im ready to be blown away by this.
Ryan wasnt oscar nominated for this was he? *googles* nope. Bastards how dare they. It was only up for one… the fuck. Livid. Beyond livid. Fucking Academey not even Mulligan urgh booo to you. I think this is Ryans best performance ever. He doesnt say much he just broods & gets stuff done & is a moody bastard, but damn thats skill. Especially when you look that pretty. He was so so good. In fact the entire cast were. So much so that i had no idea Oscar Isaac was in this movie at all & then he turned up & i was like ahhhhhhhhh Oscar! Thats how stacked the film was. Im not even mentioning Brooks or Cranston. Yea travesty.
The driving & the editing of that noise, making you feel you were in the car & feeling the vibe of it & the guns & the pain & suffering. Yea it deserved its sound editing nomination. Its editing as well was incredible. With out this film there probably is no baby driver years later which runs with it. I sat on the edge of my chair for the movie going oh fuck a lot. My eyes not once got distracted. I needed the slow calm moments just to recover a little bit, but so much important stuff went down in those moments that you couldnt just grab your phone to see whod messaged you. This film needs your full attention & then when its over you breathe & go the fuck.
How many jobs did that man have? like 4billion? I mean i get it i do but he was good at all of them. I know he was under the cosh to become the driver for the crime jobs i get that, but surely he was paid enough to not do that from the other couple of things he did. Yes to bigging up stunt people too.
Its bloody & really grim at points. The main heist that sets off all the shit & the fall out from that & the death. Ewwwwwwww not for the faint hearted, but so would be how someone did that. Grim but good grim. You wanted to look away but you jus couldnt do it. especially with the neck slice ewwwwww.
Remind me to never even look at someone who might be linked to a mob or mafia, no one ever leaves in one piece, if they even can leave. It was clever how this one job just changed the entire films dynamics & stopped everyone from trusting anyone.
I didnt like that the first scene was the last scene with him in that hotel room saying he wont be back. I mean i get it but it made the end of it less impactful as we had heard that speech before & seen that view. It was still heart-breaking but could have been even more so to see that just once. Especiall ywhen he says they were the best part of his life. That was also nice you knew there was chemistry between them but they never properly confirmed it was an affair & how hes then just still accepted. That was really good character development.
Other than the driving i really enjoy the motel room scene, that is bloody cool. The shouting the drama, the stalk & the deaths. It just works so well. It just all felt like that would be how well that scene would go down in real life. I thought we were going to know them for a while but no. At one point i did actually leap up & go fuck.
The lift bit is so violent too, but was so needed. It so clever. It shows his true colours & that it really is kill or be killed now hes in this game.
I needed to watch this film & it did not let me down. The driving the editing the acting & the adrenaline rush it gave you sitting on the edge of your seat was insane. I am glad i didnt see this in the cinema tho. Imagine how quickly id have got home. Its spectacular, well worth a watch peoples.
