I never intended to watch all the Matrix films before the next one is out but now im here & on number 2, number 3 wont be that far away (other than the fact ive started watching all of Harry Potter again) so lets do number 2 which from memory has some bloody cool moment & some that are meh, lets do this. Take the pill & follow me.

When the film isnt talking Oracles & futures & the philosophical who you are stuff & it goes for it with its set pieces, thats what you remember the film for. & when it does those moment its absolutely mesmerising & is state of the art for the time. So many films made today have the Matrix films to thank for being what they are.

Its the fight vs all the Smiths after the oracle chat that is brilliant. I know its CGI & stunt double & all of that, but its still a visual delight for the eyes 20 years later. You just sit there & watch all the stuff that goes down & just go oh wow. So well choreographed too. Yea that still stands tall today.

The vehicle chase is good to & does take up a large part of the film, all of that for a guy with keys. Its clever, but it is a bit too long. I really do like it but it is a bit to long & There is so much going on that there is a point when you forget about Neo & what hes got to do, & yet you know hes gonna turn up at the right time to save them all.

Im glad we get to meet more people & ships in this than in the first film & the actual normal people of Zion, but like all big action films at some points politics & a council need to get involved & make decisions just to piss people off & have exposition we need but does anyone actually give a crap about… no not really. Just tell us the machines are nearly there & you may have to make a last stand soon, thats all we need to know. Could have save 20mins of run time by having these votes. Just get Morpheus to deliver that speech to the people, thats all the hope they all need.

We dont need the Morpheus love traingle either. Does it add anything no not really only other tension about how many ships to send & that egos get in the way. At the end of the day dont they just want Zion to be safe, isnt that the over all goal? But nah weve got to have a love triangle to get to that point of unity.

The architect is the down point of this film. After all those doors & all that time & effort to get to that point & what they have had to go through, he just gives a huge exposition dump to set up the end which isnt actually needed. Evan as a teenager watching this without being a film nerd i was just like nah youve pissed me off now, we dont need this & the choices & stuff like that. Yes hes got to make a choice & he goes for his heart over his head, but still it proves that after all hes been through & everything hes learnt he was just like well fuck the matrix.

I know he has his vision of trinity at the start dying but surely he must have worked out that no matter what he did, she was going to die at some point to save him & everyone connected to it. She has strong will power of course she was going to plug in when the plan failed. Her survival & Neo choosing her as much as it was heart over head but still. Her incoming death was what made neo stronger.

I like Smiths new powers to clone to anyone or anything thats brilliant. I mean it does make him a dick & far to powerful, but its very very cool. Thats explained a lot more in the next one that this.

Merovignian & his wife & their ghost henchmen are literally just there to slow everything down, we didnt need that. I mean it just add something else for them to get round, but did it add a lot to the story, not really. HE turns up says no the his wife says yes, then they all argue & then we get a fight but we were going to get that flight anyhow.

I know at the time it was seen oh wow to make two films back to back & release them within the same year, but it does then make the end after he save trinity, just feel like hang on too many questions here, & im not sure they are all answered in the next one either. Also we kill a lot of people off screen with the fleet dying & the freed smith agent being asleep. Also Neo can now use his powers out side of the matrix too & only does it like twice more in the rest of the franchise. YEs it is a brilliant set up for the next one, but i think it would have been better to have ended it after he grabs trinity & takes her to the roof (as she dies not before he revives her) thats a better cliff hanger than the one they use.

I am grateful that most of this films fights happen in the day, so many big blockbusters now have the majority of the showdowns at night for a light show or at least in the dark so im glad of that.

I want to go to a Zion party they look bloody cool, they really do.

I may have moaned about the film here but its still good & its set pieces are so iconic & timeless. It walked so the MCU & all current large scale action films can jog & run.

Now can i watch number 3 before the 4th comes out later in the year?
