i remember taking my sister to see this at the cinema when it came out & we had a lot of fun & it was very action packed & so crazy & we both left thinking yeah. Now i have seen ti a few times since & i know its not the best but i havent seen it in a few years. So lets see how i feel about it now with my film buff hat on & how it makes me feel all these years later.
Oh why did i think this was a good film all those years ago… why why why. Yes its typical die hard in the fact the McLane should be dead 80 times in the film yet still survives it, but it just trys to take something from every other action film that came out in the 2 years previous. The plot is thin & the twists arent imaginative. Its not a good film but does that mean i cant enjoy it anymore…. Fuck no.
I also need to moan about Chernobyl. I mean thats the biggest bullshite claim that it take a couple of mcguffins to make it safe for people to visit & then steal everything from there. Yeah thats madness & just so so wrong.
The villains we dont learn enough about wither motives to really actually care for them or why they need to be taken down. The dancing guy whos killed off as soon as he becomes interesting, the actual politician, the guy whos meant to be good but then switches & the daughter. None of them do i care about enough for them to feel anything when they die. Especially Yuri, as he is falling like Gruber… nah he wishes he could be classed in the same category as Rickman but nah. I mean ive seen better villains in U Disney films & Wallace & Gromit than these guys, much more well rounded.
The blowing up the cars outside the court is a very cool stunt i liked that. They did go off like dominoes & you do sit & look at all of that & go wow. From that moment to the bit where they get to the safe house is very cool & very die hard & you do sit & watch that & think okay maybe we are getting something cool & fun.
How many times does John have to scream out im on vacation. I mean its funny the first 2 but after that.
There are some slow mo bits which obviously do look good in HD & on a big screen, but are totally unnecessary. IT doesnt add that much to it all visually & as much as its good its a waste of time & money to spent it on that then make some more of the characters believable.
I like how that father son relationship does fall apart & is rebuilt thats nice, but knowing they did that with the daugther in the last film, you know its going to end up happily ever after again. It is nice when he screams out Dad & hes absolutely fine & laughing that hes dad.
So many Russian stereotypes in this film that theyve all got so many guns in there car as they are gangsters & drug dealers. To any Russians reading this hi, i know thats not you all please dont cancel me, its just Hollywood doing what they always do.
There was a lot of shooting & gun fights & madness, but the only ewww moment was when they pulled the thing out of his leg. I mean that is proper die hard but still that was the only moment of yea this is gross, but it still could have gone up a notch.
Bruce & Jai do work well together but this is neither best hour if im honest.
Its a shame this is the end of the franchise really & it limps off into the sunset. 4 was good & showed how it moved into the new world of tech but this just felt awkward & weird & like it was made for the money.
I do still enjoy it, ive invested a life time into Die Hard, but the fact this makes the 2nd film look good says a lot.
