I’ve just got back from dinner with the girls, where we talked about James Bond & Magic Mike. So ive got in & put on Die Another Day. Got a problem with that… well if your a Tatum fan you might.

This bond does hold a special place in my heart. It was the first one i saw in the cinema so as much as its not aged well, i still have fond memories of it.

synopsis… popcorn synopsis… time would usually be what I put here but nah let’s get to it shall we.

This is not Bonds finest hour at all, its not his worse (moonraker is appalling sorry Roger) but its not the highs of Golden Gun, Gold Finger or Skyfall is it. It was made to tick the boxes Brosnans Bond hadnt done before, which he had to complete the Bond Bucket list if you get me. Its trying to show off how its a modern Bond, but yet its still too cleshayed.

I remember sitting in the cinema as a kid when the twist & The betrayal is shown & being like oooooh wow thats clever thats bloody good. If id seen the film for the first time as an adult id have worked it out i think, both Graves & Frost.

This is where Danny Boyle gets his Bond Sky diving idea from, its just Sir Danny made the queen do it as well as Bond. Is this also the first time a popular song at random is also played in a Bond song which isnt the theme, a bit of london’s calling for the brits.

The budget went on that CGI wave didnt it? we couldnt just have Bond do that first stunt could we with the surfing, they had to do something else, so thy did that. Waste of money. Its so poorly made, even for its time it looks fake, its just awful. Makes the car look epic.

At least the car had its uses & was a very interesting plot device. The chase & him being able to move around with noone seeing him, that was a good idea but the thermal tracking yeah they forgot that didnt they.

Why is the woman from Brainiac in it? okay should probably explain, when i was younger there was a science & fact show on sky presented by Richard Hammond who would blow stuff up & do epic experiments, & one of his assistant was the woman whos in the hotel for Bond who they frame to kill him, in Hong Kong. She will always ask me does this fruit sink or swim, not be a Bond girl.

The CGI saving M bit is cool, thats the one bit of Bond tech that has now come true. We can now all sit with our VR sets on & play call of duty or mission impossible & do that kinda thing. Cant yet have sex like Moneypenny does.

Hallie Berry is literally used just to move the plot along, she keeps getting caught & isnt actually that good a spy is she. Why the two of them never put 2 & 2 together until the laser really does annoy me.

ITS THE EDEN PROJECT!!!! IT’S THE BLOODY EDEN PROJECT! ITS NOT ICELAND! its like when films film at Mclaren we all know its not some top secret lab or base, its mclaren. At the time when the film was out it was like oooh nice new shiney place & now its like been there, my favourite mug is from there too (epic peas & plants mug).

Did Madonna really need to be in the film? I know she did the theme song, but did we really need a find min cameo before the fencing. I mean the fencing is a highting of the film entirely its so clever & is such a good way to character build that we need to despies the guy hes fighting without really knowing who he really is. Its a very good fight.

The South Korena bit is a little bit ahh i mean its a good intro to the film. I like the back stab & then the betraying & then the hovercraft. Its just a shame it ends with a saved by the bell moment. As a kid hilarious as an adult cringe cringe cringe.

The Ice palace melt is a little bit random, clever & a good chase but why did she go for the hardest part of the wall to start breaking, also why didnt she lick it as well, that would so be what i would do. I love eating ice.

Rosamund pike is a good baddie but shes not a good goodie which makes her turn not as shocking, if im honest. I mean we now know how good a baddie she can be see Gone Girl for that, but shes showing potential for her villainy future.

The final fight on the plane is just too ott even as a kid i was like what is going on here, this is so random. I mean the race to south korea & icarus then just stopping was a bit too much. & then taking off from mid air the hell.

Its also odd they dont ask for bond to come back isnt it. Its the only time where it doesnt say James Bond will return. They knew Brosnan wasnt coming back. Little did we know that we would be getting craig & a complete reinvention of the series.

So I do like this film despite me slagging it off alot in this review. I know its a bad Bond film, but being my first cinema trip for Bond it will always hold well for me. Its kinda nostalgic & nice & calm & doesnt take itself seriously. Basically i know its got flaws huge flaws, but it will always make me smile & feel happy.
