Mitch Rapp and his girlfriend are on holiday in Ibiza Moments after they get engaged, terrorists attack the beach. Amid the carnage, Rapp frantically attempts to find his girlfriend, but his fiancée is killed by the terrorists. Eighteen months later, Rapp, now really pissed off, frequents an internet message board where the terrorist responsible for his girlfriend’s murder quizzes Rapp on aspects of Islam. Having secured an invitation to meet him face to face in Libya, Rapp prepares to take his vengeance on the man responsible for the deaths, but before he can kill them, the cell is suddenly ambushed by U.S. Special Forces. Rapp repeatedly stabs the terrorist he was after, who is already dead from the ambush, before being dragged out by the U.S. forces. In a CIA safe house Rapp undergoes debriefing before being offered a chance by the CIA Deputy Director to join black operations .Stan Hurley, is a former U.S. Navy SEAL and a Cold War veteran who trains Rapp and the other potential recruits in asymmetric warfare. Meanwhile, word comes down through intelligence channels that nuclear mcguffin has disappeared from a Russian facility. Hurley’s team is sent into Turkey to intercept the buyer Ghost is working for. In Istanbul, Hurley’s team is identified, and the attempted intercept of the trigger device fails. Rapp pursues the seller to his apartment, and after killing the man, retrieves his laptop. The information leads the team to Rome, where operatives identify a nuclear physicist needed to craft the nuclear material into a functional nuclear bomb. While in Rome, Rapp uncovers a co-worker, Annika, as a foreign agent for Iran. She explains that she is working for the mainstream Iranian faction which is attempting to stop the hardliners from acquiring nuclear material. During a meeting between Hurley and an Iranian contact, Ghost ambushes them and kills the contact and captures Hurley.
At the CIA safe house in Rome, Annika is being moved under guard by two Mossad agents when Rapp intercepts the car and frees her. Working together, they locate the subterranean headquarters Ghost is using to build the nuclear device. After infiltrating the tunnels, Rapp locates and frees a badly injured Hurley, however Annika is captured by Ghost and she kills herself with Ghost’s gun before Ghost escapes onto a boat with the nuke. Based on an earlier conversation, Hurley deduces that Ghost intends to make a kamikaze attack against the U.S. Navy’s Sixth Fleet. Rapp chases after Ghost’s boat, while the Sixth Fleet, alerted to the impending nuclear attack through CIA channels, prepares for the attack. Aboard Ghost’s boat, Rapp kills Ghost and attempts to divert the boat away from the Sixth Fleet to shield the ships from the blast, before throwing the nuclear weapon into the sea and escaping aboard a Rescue helicopter sent by Irene to rescue Hurley. Seconds later the device detonates, creating a massive sink hole and subsequent tsunami that inundates the Sixth Fleet vessels, but the fleet survives the blast. In the aftermath of the blast, Hurley is recovering from his injuries and notes that Rapp is on vacation in Dubai, while watching news reports indicating that the Iranian faction which tried to obtain the nuclear weapon will win the presidential election. In Dubai, the faction candidate and his escorts enter an elevator in which Rapp is already present, smiling.
This film is a very hard watch with some of the stuff that happens. Thats not saying its bad. Im just saying you wont enjoy some of it. The terrorist on the beach is full on & there is no mercy to be had in that scene. You seriously sit there watching it going oh my god feeling physically sick. Which is why the film is an 18. Some of the torture scenes as well are just ewwww & you do turn your head away at points. But thats why this film was made, to show you that this does happen in the world. We all know our planet is ruined & there are some nasty people in it & we turn a blind eye on it every now & then, but we shouldnt. Well done for having the balls to make us look people.
Dylan in the future action hero for the new generations. We are going to be watching him save the world on numerous occasions for years to come & i am so up for that. The guy can do no wrong at all & its a pleasure to watch. Its also good seeing how hes grown from doing the maze runner films & is now doing this kinda gritty film. Its a privilege.
That being said, hes not the star in this film, its Keaton. I just love his character & his style & his whole fuck off attitude, i dont care im going to die anyway. It really is a stunning performance & his relationship with Dylan just grows throughout the film.
I love a film where you dont really know who to trust & then you do & then it makes you second guess it. This film does this perfectly. It really sets you up for one thing & then smoothly leads you into the next before reverting to the original story. So clever & well through out & at no point did it feel like it was being pushed upon you to do this. That is what good film making about.
Everyone at the CIA was crap if im honest they were the down point of the entire film. I know they are meant to put one kinda emotion for us but none of them were believable.
We need to talk about how hes actually spied on & how one lone guy can get into a terrorist cell & the cia or fbi cant, & that they dont actually stop him or know about all of that much until they debreife him. I mean it means the CIA FBI or MI6 are probably following me type all this right now as ive included trigger word on this post which is a blog a few dozen people follow. Hi Guys, yes i am going to put on the greatest showman soundtrack again in a few minutes to listen too, im sure you still love it after 2 years as well.
Would it have really taken out all those navy ships? Im not sure it would have if im honest. Also it was a bit of a stupid plan really.
I liked the bit in the Van when i first saw the film i genuinely didnt see that coming but it is one of the best bit of the film. Its slow & then so quick & then such a mess. Its brilliant.
I also dont like the fact we have such a long build up after the initial intensity of it for then the end to be done so quickly. Okay i understand it cant be that intense for so long, but it was kinda like act one took 15% of the film act 2 took 40% act 3 took 35% & the finally took 10%. more balance in that respect please film.
As i said earlier some of you will hate this film & find it a little too much. But personally i love that it does this. It has the guts to make you want to throw up your guts & then beg for more. I hope this is a film people talk about for years to come & i cant wait for where Dylan goes next.
