Film quiz time people time to watch a film which when i watched it i was over critical about but now find it so re-watchable, also Bens in it & Ben is on fire at being the bad guy right now so whoooooooop

Popcorn Synopsis for you all
in the near distant future, the world’s population spend the majority of their time in an ai virtual reality world known as the oasis, where you can be what you want, when you want & how you want, as an escapism from modern life & how crap it’s been to you. James Halliday the creator of the oasis dies & announces after his death that there is a hidden game in the oasis, & once you have completed all 3 you will get 3 keys & the ultimate Easter egg & be the sole owner of the oasis. Parcival (Wade Watts) & his friend H spend years trying to complete the first challenge but fail until they meet Ar3mus a gamer who like them wants to try & complete the challenges. They seem to be the only 3 players taking this seriously apart from the ioi players, who are basically debt collectors for people who don’t pay their fees to the oasis, they want control of the oasis & to win the three keys. Upon going to the online library Percival works out finally the key to win the first race & collects the first key. At3mus H & a couple of there other friends then also do this so that the 5 of them can go around to find the next key. Nolan Sorento head of ioi & Hallidays old intern finds out about this & gets people in the oasis to find them. While on a date Parzival reveals his real name Wade to At3mus while they are being attacked which is all Sorento needs. Sorento offers Wade money & anything he could ever desire in order to solve the keys, but he refuses, realising what ioi would do. ioi then blow up the stacks where he lives but Wade isn’t actually there, instead it murders his Aunt & his friends. Wade is then taken by the rebellion which includes art3mus who’s actually called Samantha. They go back into the oasis & the library & Wade wins a bet with the avatar incharge of it for all the coin he has, a quarter. They work out the next challenge is apart of the film the shinning & after H gets freaked out as he doesn’t like horror Samatha completes it by asking hallidays ex girlfriend to dance. The rest also complete this which alerts ioi to the fact Wade is still alive. The rebels are then hijacked & Samantha is taken & Wade meets up with the rest of his oasis friends in real life including H who turns out to be a woman much to his shock. ioi put a forcefield around the 3rd challenge so no one but they can get to it, however as Nolan leaves the oasis he is hijacked to thinking he is in the real world, when he isn’t, so they can get Samantha out. Percival then asks everyone in the oasis to come & fight ioi to save the world which almost everyone responds to. Samantha takes down the shield & they get near the challenge. Nolan realises she’s not left ioi after she kills him in the game & starts to take out actual people. knowing she will die in the real world Percival kills art3mus just before Nolan gets to her so she can run away & join the others. Now being hunted down in real life & the game Percival fights off Nolan to stop him getting the key but Nolan uses a device that kills everything in the oasis. However Percival survives. turns out the quarter he got earlier was an extra life. He completes the final challenge & is offered oasis but turns it down, realising real life & people & the actual world are more important. This turns out to be a final test & Percival goes into Hallidays mind to look at the actual oasis & gets the golden Easter egg. While this has been going on Nolan & ioi have chased the group to the stacks who put up a fight to protect them. Nolan goes to kill Wade just as he gets the egg & control of the game, Nolan sees the error in his ways & decides not to shoot him & is arrested. Hallidays lawyers arrive along with his old partner who set the oasis up with him & Wade decided to split running the oasis between him & his 4 friends who helped him get it. He also finally has the courage to tell & show Samatha how he feels about her. It also turns out that Hallidays partner was the curator at the Library in the game & had no idea that the coin would bring an extra life. The 5 of them run the oasis, close ioi & decide to turn the oasis off every once & a while, so people can actually live there real life from time to time.

omg that was long that took me over 30mins to write fuck me… fingers hurt ouch ouch ouch… anyhow.

I know the film is filled with pop culture references & thats the point but oh wow is it filled with them. Every single little detail in the oasis & the real world is just full of them. Okay yes the book is from the last millenium so most echo back to that, but some of the characters that people play as are full on here & now. Like im sure there is a Tails & Lara teaming up at one point at the last battle. Theres always so much going on & as the kinda person who love looking for the nerdy things its right up my street this.

This film does take a while to get going if im honest you sit there being teased that we are going to get full on & extreme & in your face about it, but its only once Wade realises theres more to this than just winning a key that you really start to watch & enjoy this. If we could start with that tone it would of been on of the best films of last year definitely.

Tye Sheridan isnt the best actor in the world, but he does fit Wade & Percivals personas perfectly. I do just which there was a bit more realness to him in the real world. IT is like his acting he did put it all into his Avatar, which i kinda guess is the point that its more important to him, but even when he realises it isnt it doesnt change.

Ben is the go to guy right no for you beddie he really is. So he just fucking nails it as Nolan. So much so that when we were writing notes for the quiz i kept putting down Ben & had to google on the way to the quiz what his character was called. When he gets Pissy in the hologram room & when hes going mad trying to find Samantha, oh thats pure Evil Mendelsohn, that is what i want to see in a film. I also love the fact hes just Nolan Sorrento in the Oasis proving he doesnt really know how it works as he didnt change his name. Its epic.

He does get kicked in the balls though, serves him right for having a crappy password for the whole world to copy & use. What a twat. Thats like the head of stark securities password being password, that would never happen…

Pegg & Rylance also need comending for there people & avatars in the film, especially when we get those flashbacks in the library i love them, they really make the film something else. It touches the heart that he did all that for people to view to learn from there mistakes.

I’ve never seen the shining but ive seen the important & iconic bits, other than that most of my shining knowledge comes from H’s experience in this film. & i love the fact that ioi struggled to do that task its brilliant. They all just freaked out too.

Holy Hand Grenade didnt actually make the correct noise before it went off urgh!

The race is epic, seriously if you take away all of the pop culture stuff, it really is a stunning race & one hell of a course & you just watch it on the edge of your seat even in reverse going oh wow.

I like the fact that ioi have a room full of nerds trying to work everything out who dont actually care they work for the bad guys. They care about just solving the easter eggs & want someone to complete the game. I also like the fact that when they play adventure the guy actually is trying to win & they commend him for it & are all happy when he does & then he doesnt.

Its metaphor is bleeding obvious that there is more & more to life than looking at a screen & being a slave to technology & i know thats rich coming from me who is typing this via technology to tell you all about pop culture & all the cool references, but it is. We do need to spend less time on our social media & online & pretending to be the perfect internet people. You need to appreciate what we have.

I love that H is a girl after her earlier warning about you dont know who you are really meeting on line thats brilliant.

Bit too much narration at points & then absolutely nothing & then suddenly a bit more. It does jump a bit in that respect.

Every film now has to have a Hall & Oats song i guess. Theres been a lot in recent years that use, you make my dreams come true. You do know cinema there are other Hall & Oats song you can use other than that. Im not complaining its just you know use something else.

If you are nerdy like me & you love a film with a good plot with some suspense, but you really just want to hunt for easter eggs this is the film for you. Its got a good message, its clever how its switches between worlds & it does make you smile when the end credits roll. Well worth it if youve got the time, even that opening half an hour will eventually pay it off. Definitely better on a second watch.
