Spoilers
Star trekking across the universe. Yep time to get on that doomed every other week space ship the uss enterprise with Captain Kirk & go where no one has gone before… ish.
JJs second Star Trek film came with an added bonus to the first… a Cumberbatch. Oh yes we all went to the cinema as a family to see it, it was that must watch. My sister did end up getting bored of it as it was constantly on sky cinema & you know the Cumberbatch has a long coat I’m sold.
So I hadn’t watched this in about 18months when I decided to divulge again & was pleasantly surprised by a few bits.
Quick synopsis John Harrison after making a deal to save Noel Clarke’s daughters life gets him to blow up Star fleet in London, which means he can attack all the captains as they meet in America & kill them all. With his mentor dead at Harrison’s hands Kirk Spock & everyone else take back there ship to capture Harrison. Turns out Harrison is Khan who loves to kill everyone & his crew are all stored in weapons he built. After finding out Star fleet is partly behind this Khan tries to kill everyone. Kirk sacrifices his life to save everyone on the enterprise but an irate Spock chases after Khan for revenge. Realising Khan can save Kirk they eventually capture him & Kirk is revived.
Can I just say that writing that all out makes that sound a hell of a lot more boring than the film actually is… makes it sound crap doesn’t it. Okay so maybe don’t go off my synopsis.
The Cumberbatch need to stop jumping off things in long coats & looking into the distance as he does it. Its scares the hell out of me everything but god he looks hot as he does it. His once is perfect for a villain it really is. Hollywood love using us Brits for this but hes just uber cool & slothy. Just the whole now shall we begin… ohhh hom nom its so nice id give into him as well.
When he single handly destroys the Klingons too thats so cool. The cumberbatch is now an action star too, not just using big long words anymore ( he does still do that & i love him for it). This was also when my sister learnt what KRONOS was after it being in the incredibles for years & not getting the reference i remember when we came out of the cinema seeing this that she went oh so thats why its his password. Haha.
His speech about his family (even though they are evil) is heart warming & you do for a few minutes revert to his side. His whole performance in the glass cage is brilliant.
Zoe Saldana rocks it in this absolutely making her the go to sci-fi actress of the world. Shes bloody good at it in this & guardians shes nailed the roll & will now always be the space girl that can kick arse. Okay shes likely to be type cast but shes sooo soooo good at it. I love her argument with spock too. Its brilliant the whole your going to do this fight now, & Kirk has to just sit there & listen.
Simon Pegg’s Scotty when he is running up & down that spaceship trying to get them in is brilliant. Its typically British & quirky & arse about face, & shouldnt be in a film of this magnitude, but it is & it so works. Does beg the question how did he manage to sneak in to the hanger with the rest of those little ships without being noticed or reported.
Poor Bones bless him moans about everything thing & then when he gets it goes nah not really what i wanted. Good on him. Hes my spirit animal. Ive never heard anyone say the line get me a cryo tube now with such meaning before.
That first scene with the tribe when they save them & they all end up getting fired back home is funny heart warming shocking & action packed. A proper good start to any film no matter what genre it is.
All those people in the future who die when that ship crashes to earth, & when the enterprise explodes, im sure there would have been more of a fuss about it then there actually is made out of it in the film.
Love the Leonard Nimoy appears again, to give help when he cant but does. Its also a huge twist that its Kirk that dies & not Spock, which is what happened in the original. Its proper stressful watching that climb to save the ship as it crashes to earth but its brilliant.
It sets it up at the end to be continued but then it didnt which is a little odd if you ask me.
It may not be as good as the original star trek film about Khan but i really enjoyed it & watching it back now after not seeing it for a little while, does illustrate some flaws, but who cares i enjoy it & i thinks its stunning. Well done JJ well done.
