Time to hit up the cinema again, to say goodbye to some much loved characters again & have provided us with so much joy & hope over the years. Yep time to say goodbye to the xmen (until they join the MCU in about 5 years time).

before we get to the rest of this, Odeon are busy giving away pin badges with xmen on them which is so cool perfect for my bags. They are available all of the opening weekend. So i asked 2 different staff members if they had them, no they didnt they didnt even know what that was one of them even asked a manager & went nah not hear of them at all. Gutted. Have asked head office if i can have on so that will be interesting to see which one turns up for me.

Screen 1 had about 40 people in there for a 5:45 film, & i did feel a bit okay this is odd. I think i was the only women in their. It was all guys, okay Xmen are mainly aimed at the male audience, but surely this female lead movie would bring more women to the cinema right… obviously i was mistaken.

Trailers the older spiderman one (cant show the new one as it has huge spoilers) Men in Black yay, Brightburn yesss, & Hobbs & Shaw bring it on so hyped for it. Also odeon have got rid of their moon man too, & replaced him with the guys from toy story 4 to turn your phone off with. Thats pretty darn cool.

& then the film started… & its epic goodbye whimpered out slowly which is a real shame. Probably more of the current cinema climates fault rather than the films, but considering what we’ve already said bye to it wasnt as epic or even close to being as epic as it should have been.

Now im not sure if i can say what i want to say as the trailer alludes to something happening in the film but doesnt actually confirm or deny it, so im not sure what to do. Do i mention it? Well after said merguffin happens in the trailer, there is conversation that happens where someone says something to someone & its the best bit emotional bit of the film too. Its kinda what we all wanted to happen in real life except the merguffing obviously, but it was really special & i went nooooooo, even though i knew full well.

I like the fact that Fassbender turns up randomly half way through the film to cause havoc as magneeto. Its nice for it to be so far along so much so that you kinda go okay whats going on here & then he shows & you go oh yeah of course you need to be in this. He always get the fun part of it all. No offence to McAvoy he is still bloody good but he doesnt get given as much of a range to play with than Fassbender.

The newer younger xmen that only really turned up in the last one do have more of a go in this film, but they are all a little weak & bit needy & not the best actors or actresses (except for Sophie) but the rest i dont believe are those characters, they add very little to the rest of it.

Sophie Turner is good as Jean she is. Its just a shame that they couldn’t decide what they wanted her to to. I know that goes with her conflicting emotions at times but theres just some bits where you go no thats not right. Shes not good enough to be a goody or bad enough to be a baddy or weak enough to be a victim or strong enough to be a hero. & that really bugs me. Go with an Arc & stick with it dont chop it up & swap it around every 17 seconds. It gives you a messy film & narrative.

Jessica Chastain’s character whos meant to be in charge of all the baddys is crap. So badly written & uncharismatic. Its just bad to watch, & as for the rest of the baddys they get so little screen time that you dont actually care about them or think they have a chance, so when we get to the fight at the end noone gives a shit about them at all. Yay alien fight whoop next.

I can see why they had to change some of the ending it was probably too similar to another hero film recently in the last 2 years, no wonder they had to re shoot.

I like the foreshadowing & symmetry of some bits of the film, especially the chess, that was cool. IT really did link everything around back to 2000.

Its also the first Xmen film with no Wolverine mention or cameo at all which really is odd & a bit strange. I knew he wasnt in it but no mention at all did feel a little bit odd & surreal for the franchise.

History will judge this xmen film even more than it should, because of what has come before it for recent goodbyes to beloved characters & ends of storys. That being said its still not a film to recommend to people to watch or write home about. It should have had the balls to go with what it wanted to be instead of contradicting itself at every turn.

Shame its whimpered out really. Its become a victim of circumstance. IT deserved more.
