& now for film number 2
Ive been waiting a while for this one & awful long while. I saw the trailer about 6 months ago & went i need to see this film. So here i am. I’ve seen a film i never thought i would see before hand, in the shape of Aquaman & now we are ready for the main event
I say we… it was just me in screen 2, just me at 9pm at night??!?!?!?!?!?! One other person did turn up 10mins through the film so had missed lots of the preamble & set up of it. But that was it. Did freak me out a little that they may forget about me & lock me in the cinema, As fun as that sounds… No thanks.
I had to sit through 25mins of adverts & trailers too. Cheers odeon for that, took forever & ever, especially when your on your own its late & i had just praised them for not having as many in my last review.
Trailers we had Mary Queen of Scotts, Beautiful Boy, Dark Phoenix, Vice & That Singalong Bohemian Rhapsody was this friday. Shame i have plans on friday in every respect to not be able to go & see that.
& then the film started…
I’m emotional at the best of times but right now im very overly emotional, but watching Steve Carells beautiful heart-wrenching performance, both as Mark & Hogie his Doll that represents him, is just magical & stunning. Its a properly rounded performance which just makes you want to hug him & tell him its going to be okay.
The dolls (generally & The motion capture) is so clever & that village that is built is just amazing. Especially when you realise this actually all happens in real life. Mark is a real person, & the film does such a good job of showing you the mundane of his normal life & then the spirit in his Doll life. It truly is something brilliant.
The way those doll scenes are filmed is up there with some epic bits of filming. Yes there are bits that are a bit odd like when they say turn around, & just the head of the doll moves but i like that charm its clever.
Every bot of story telling in both world is so clever as well that its mirror images & different aspects happen depends on what happens to Mark.
I like the fact that he gets his closure at points especially at the end but you dont actually see the real life outcome to it. You dont need to all you need to know is that he has made peace with himself & he is now Happy. Thats probably more spoiler-ish that it should be but its true. & i think thats a good message for everyone to just make peace with themselves & everything else then doesnt matter, it will just fall into place around you.
There was a back to the future easter egg right? wasnt just me that saw that?
I left the cinema feeling cold from dis-pare & heartbreak & loss but i was also filled with love warmth & kindness. It didnt help that it was 0c outside either.
Im so glad i have seen this film it was truly inspiring & loving. Like i cant see why people like the favourite, i dont understand why isnt loved by people. I just wanted to give this film a big old hug & tell it that it was all going to be okay.
