I didnt know this film existed until Pride Season was on, so cheers cinema for advertising this. Today is actually a say off for me & the british summer time means rain rain rain, so ive seaked shelter in the cinema & this is going to do the job nicely.
You know what for a 1:50pm showing im impressed Brighton. I thought it was just going to be me but no there was a good 20 other people in my cinema with me. Woohooo. I was the youngest by a long shot but still.
I also booked this time for the film because i knew at 2pm the Gladiator II trailer was dropping & i couldnt be responsible for my actions if i was there for all the panic as it happened in real time.
Trailers, Deadpool, Trap, Twisters & Wicked. Basically it was a case of ahhh what do people want to see coming up to get them back here.
& then the film started… Well that was a very interesting film for sure.
Its not often that i say a film needs to increase its drama & stakes in a film as often films like this over do it, but this one even when it upped it, it didnt got for it enough. Maybe thats me being picky, but it needed a few more conflicts, more why this is deemed one thing & not the other. Yea it just needed to push the envelope a lots more.
Then again because of the films subject matter i can see why it did go full on with it. Its a sensitive subject or some community’s about your sexuality & how you are judge by your religion & life & what it means to your community & where you think you belong. However, if you are brave enough to make a film about a man falling for a drag queen not realising she is a he, then you need to go for it. Youve already upset some people, go for it. The rest of us will applaud you for it.
It is an interesting conversation, which is discussed in the film but not fully. Again holding back where it didnt need to about falling for the person rather than just the gender IT lead to some really important questions.
She looked so good in drag. So So good. Like damn girl! It was amazing.
All of those car rides were so much fun & were brilliant. I loved them, it was so organise & never felt like they were acting. They were chats you have about life when on a 2hour car trip. IT felt organic & right. You cant fake that even in a car, its got to be real.
I think we didnt need the last actual scene. We should have had the moments before it, but i think we should have been allowed to think how it ended, it didnt need the complete closure. By removing the last 2mins of the film, would have had you going well everyone knows who they are now, so thats good.
This is actually really hard to review without going into specific details which will spoil a lot of things in the film. But i want you all to watch this & discover this for yourself.
Did his kid ever get to go to disney? Also did the mum stay around after she randomly came back & tried to get back with him? That was never really explained past that one scene, it never then became an issue did it.
It was beautiful & meaningful but it needed to be braver like the people in this film. If your telling this story i want it to break me not just make me feel oooh okay then.
