What i do for our man hmmm… Our man is Pedro Pascal by the way if you havent worked that out yet. But after missing out because Freaky Tales UK release was literally release in 3 cinema over the easter weekend & that was it (bloody ridiculous what kind of release is that) i wasnt going to miss out on the uninvited, even if i had to pay for it. So im off to the Odeon. My old stomping ground.
So if i ever moan about Cineworld again please tell me off. The chairs, the same, the carpet &floor still uneven, the chairs not staggered so someone is directly in front of you. The hand rail still bloody broken from 2020. The screen small (& i was in screen 4 which is one of their bigger screens. Yea im not moaning about Cineworld again. But that being said apparently im still an odeon member so got it for £5. I had no idea (ive checked im not paying for it).
There was about 20 of us in the cinema for it. If im honest we were all their for Walter or Pedro, looking at the age & style of everyone there, we were all there for those two.
Trailers, mission impossible, how to train your dragon, f4 & f1. ITs the first time ive seen the f1 trailer in a cinema. Some how it looks better at home that on a big screen. Maybe cos that i how i watch my F1. also the f4 trailer was the first one which was odd.
& then the film started… well you cant win them all can you.
I will get the Pedro stuff out the way first, so then the rest of you can read the review, (im going to be typing that a lot in the coming months with 3 more films of his to come out).
Lucien is more than Yummy. Hes delicious. He also after being teased that the big movie star is turning up, actually catches you off guard & took my breath away. Because damn hes looking fine &that hair is so fluffy &the chain…. ooooh he can be my secret ex Lucien.
He only has about 12minutes of screen time in the whole film, but damn does he actually show his range. Hes arrogant &vulnerable, flirty but closed off, & a hopeless romantic & a bit of a dick. He can do all that chugging a bottle of wine, & touching his lips. God our man is gifted.
& we all now know the hand thing, is such a Pedro thing, because damn i want to be against that wall.
Hes a wonderfully pleasant surprise in this film & shows how he has grown as an actor not just since the start but even in the last 5 years.
I also just want to sit on that swing & talk to him about nothing in a warm LA evening.
However, where were those Jammies? If you dont know theres a picture of Pedro while hes playing Lucien leaning against a door frame with really soft fluffy hair being all loyal puppy in Jammies & this was not included in the movie. I feel cheated out of my second favourite Pedro look, its not fair. Oh well ill just keep Jammie Pascal to myself then.
Right Pedro is done & dusted rest of review time.
This is going to be a really weird place to start but the last scene of the film was so heart-breaking. It was the right place to end it. It was calm & peaceful & was what all those characters needed to be put into perspective in their lives, except the main lead, she had her life in perspective already. But i get that it could have gone on more, but that was something so simple & beautiful. Im not sure the rest of the film earned that moment but it really caught my emotions.
This film ahs a really important to mainstream hollywood about how it treats women & the ageing process. Which Elizabeth delivers strong as the lead & how she has to balance everything in her life which is also shown at the party. ITs also shown by the young up & coming person having a crisis & the uninvited guest being a great of the screen whos seemingly forgotten & aging out of everything. Its then a shame this is in such an indi film & that it took private funding for it to get distribution. ITs also just a good commentary that still here in 2025 women are sometimes just thought of as a mum & nothing else.
The party was full of uperty people at points which hacked me off but not as much as usual. This was meant to be the elite of hollywood, so i can expect that, especially when it came to the price of the drinks & the conversation & people being self important. We also didnt spend to much time at the party. While it was getting going we stay inside & then when we did go outside it was only really to see 4 people. I know we cant know everyone at a party, but i was expecting a few more mis haps or conversations than we got. Maybe i expect too much from my films.
I liked Lois as the little old lady, she was rather wonderful, but considering she was the mcguffin she was forgotten about a few times for a while & when we got back to her it was just more at times just to be like ooooh shes here still, shes still uninvited. She needed a bit more respect.
I dont get Walton, im sorry. For acting or looks, he just doesnt do it for me at all. Im sure for his niche group hes the bees knees but no, he just always seems very much im in a mood & you cant get me out of it. Always a vibe killer a little. & this was before he got stressed about getting stuck in a toilet which was very very funny.
We didnt need the drama about where that kid had gone, he was always going to be fine. It did make a character open up a little, but she had already given the key bit of information before the kid wasnt there.
Doing coke off your kids bath time book & not cleaning up properly afterwards… stay classy film… not.
So these aura photos, we only saw a couple of them. I was really hoping to see how he chose them & how they worked & for more people or maybe for the person to turn more into that colour & vibe as the night went on.
This film was a very good premise & idea & i think with a couple more stand out names of up & coming it would be what everyone is talking about & would have a wider distribution than it got. It was still pleasant & sweet & im glad ive seen it for our man owning every second he was on screen but it just needed over all better actors.
