Hello to Jason Isaacs….
Right now thats done (the day after watching this film at the cinema is actually his birthday) i can tell you all about my cinema trip to go & watch the salt path that im not joking ive seen in trailers since probably conclave, over 6 months of randomly seeing it in trailers at the cinema wondering is it ever going to come out, but today is the day.
My 7:40 showing on a thursday was half full & as i walked in as the trailers were about to start, i saw a couple of people look at me & then whisper shes a bit young for this. It wasnt an oldies screening, it was a usual one, but the next youngest person i saw in my screening was minimum 50.
Trailers, F1 (something about seeing the trailer in the cinema isnt right), 28 years later, ballerina, Jurassic Park & Downton Abbey (they are still making those?).
& then the film started… i was warned it would hurt, it did.
I cried. Right at the end. Jason broke me. He was talking about his eventual death which could have been at any time due to what was discussed in the film (theres hints to it in the trailer, plus its a real life story & a book so not spoilers) but as he stood there talking about how hed like to go & what life meant to him &how she responded, that broke me. As a kid, growing up with him on film as father to someone my age & then him becoming a cult hero & obviously him being about the same age as my parents, that hit home a bit. It was beautifully heart breaking in the best way. Really made me think about the meaning of it all.
Its such a simple idea just in general, just to go walking to get away from lifes stresses. I mean i do go for a beach walk most weekend, just to clear the cobwebs so this made perfect sense to me. But i did like the fact they got like 2miles & went that will do lets camp here, that was funny.
Pastys & pot noodles really do solve all the world issues & damn those pasty’s looked so so good.
I liked the people they met on the way & how they all helped each other learn & cope. Especially after a earlier bus issue for someone for then that to be resolved another way was nice. All the bits of drama were dealt with quickly, so you didnt have to think about it for a while. I also love how everyone thought he was famous. That was so funny, but at least they got a few things out of it. Good on them.
Who was the bitter up herself woman they stayed with for the winter. She was so rude & up herself to them the entire time, even though she offered this to them. She was just not nice at all & i wanted to slap her face. Dont offer if you dont want them. & they stayed out your bloody way too. She ruined that whole part of the movie for me.
The flash backs to the past were good, but we did stop after about 40mins of the film, we then didnt do it again. Maybe a bit more pacing them out would have helped to show how they had to change before they got to this moment.
The investment, its never explained, or the legal paper work thats discussed. I get it was about their walk &they didnt need all of that but all we were told was investment & dodgy friend who took them for a ride & no lawyer would have done that & gone nope thats not valid. Dodgy as fuck.
God we have some lush country side we really do. We take it for granted sometimes dont we. I mean every time i walk out my front door of my building i have the sea to the south & the national part to the north, no wonder its expensive here.
The earth people were odd but they would be the kind of people who would help them.
Why sleep on the beach?! Why?! that was always going to end in disaster.
This was sweet simple honest & heart-breaking & sometimes thats all you need. 2 good actors walking & just being them. Its going to be a film that falls under a lot of peoples radar who find it in about 18 months time & go oh wow thats powerful. Its rather lovely.
