Despite seeing trailers for this at cineworld a few times, the closest cinema that isnt my local independent that is showing this is Eastbourne… EASTBOURNE! not even bloody crawley or chi. So thank the movie gods for £4 mondays at the local independent. Cos ive heard Saoirse has another chance to lose an oscar with this one.
I time my driving to the local cinema to perfection, so when i got to my screening as i walked in Fink was shouting SWIM! there was 1 more advert after wild robot for Paddington & that was it. I also because then the lights went off didnt see how many people were properly in there. I saw at least 20 people leave before me though for the small screen we were in.
& then the film started… God shes the queen of indi films isnt she. She just owns them.
Like i know Saoirse is an incredible actress, thats a given. But damn she has so much to cope with in this film & to do & she bosses it all. The drinking, the mental health, the despair, the longing, the loving. Its not a one woman film, but it may as well be because you do forget people who share scenes with her once they have left.
Epic advert for the isles off Scotland. I mean looks bloody windy & cold in the winter. I think i can cope with the cold after going to many football games, but there were points when i was watching this film especially when it got to when it snowed in the winter that i wanted to put my coat back on to watch this.
There was one point where she talked about waving at the space station as it passes over at night, yep thats me. I do that a couple of times a years. It really puts you in your place, especially when we had our own astronauts in there.
The narration was good, but at some points not really linked to the story. I get it was her coping mechanism but still.
IT dealt with mental health in a caring way. Showing what happens when you are addicted to something, & also what happens when you have a mental health issue thats not in your control. It showed them both as separate issues, but also how they effect each other too. When she relapsed i think i said out loud nooooooooooooooooooo! so im sorry to the people in my local cinema. Her panic attack on the boat, yea that was very realistic.
What actually is an outrun? It was mentioned once that it needed repairing but we never saw it & it wasnt mentioned again. The weird puffins were mentioned more, i loved that part of the story & it was clever how that was resolved.
The flashbacks & non lineal time of the film, was very well done. Another point which made me angry after something happened to someone & i was like yea they need help. The script was really good.
Weve all had a drunk friend on a night out who wants one more drink or doesnt want to go home after one too many drinks. Especially when everyone else is over it.
Otters & Seals YESSSSSSSSSSSSS
Was she auditioning for Mcfly? I lost the number of different colours her hair was.
This was depressingly beautiful & was made for millenials to tell people that they are strugglign for sure, but other than a basic plot nothign much else happened & she needed more of a resolution than she got. Yea shes likely to lose another oscar for this for sure. Sorry babes.
