This is when you know your taking the 100 cinema trip club seriously, when you decide to go & watch The Garfield movie. Its not 20025 either. What am i doing. Ive even chosen this over Furiosa today (mainly because they are putting it on at the worst bloody times urgh). So yea here i am ready to watch the lasagne loving kitty.
Half full cinema, families obviously & 1 other group of millennials without kids so i didnt feel as bad. But yea thats pretty good. I know lots of families are waiting for Inside out 2 though to watch that than this.
Trailers, Wild Robot (we have since this had a new trailer for it by the way), Despicable me 2, Inside out 2, & something else ahhh what was it. Was it the safe not spoiler filled wicked one or something soft. IT was a lot of adverts & trailers though.
& then the film started… & you know what, it was better than i expected this to be, which is saying actually quite a lot because i expected this to be horrifically crap.
I dont care im going to spoil something, mainly because the rest of the cinema didnt get it & i was the only person in my screening laughing my head off. So one of the characters is voiced by Vic Rhymes, who is best know for playing Luther in the Mission Impossible movies. His character comes up with a plan & exposition for whats going to happen & then as they demonstrate what should happen with the plan, they softly & then encourage the mission impossible theme to play in the back ground, so that by the time the plan is fully explained, its fill on the theme song. I laughed hard for a good 2minutes. It was an epic pay off & i dont care if it was just for me. It bloody worked & is probably why i have given this more praise than it should have got. I dont care though, that bit had me sold.
I get people want to be voice overs for films, but Oddie being voice by Harvey from What we do in the shadows was a complete waste of talent. That was so not fair on him. I get that hes not the star name to be in it but when that appeared in the credits i was like WHAT!
Pratt, Jackson & Holt all do a good job so does Waddingham, but i think shes a bit of a miscast cat if im honest. She was a little bit all over the place. Shes a good voice, but it felt out of place with everyone else in the film. Im sorry it did. Also casting Snopp Dogg as a cat for 2 scenes was very clever & fun.
Baby Garfield is so adorable. I mean we all know we like a big eyed little softie (ahem Pedro) but his whole introduction & eating all of that Italian food was incredible & clever but he does it in such a soft sweet little kitten way, how can you not fall for that cat honestly. I dare anyone to not like that cat. I wanted him.
Not going to lie, a couple of tears fell from my eyes. IT got pretty emotional at the end with a tree. It got me in the feels & then i was sitting there saying to myself why the fuck am i crying at a Garfield movie.
Catflix… i need that forget Garfield. All of Garfield’s home life is so me though. The food the coolness, the living your best life, yea Garfield lives the best life.
Who has 26 top cheeses?! Seriously ?! (struggles to name 26 types of cheese, ive been trying to since i saw this film).
So many drones… was Michael Bay consulted for this film?
I can see why little kids will adore this film & it is an alternative to Inside Out & Despicable Me this summer for sure. It has enough adult jokes to keep parents happy & in that sense it did over deliver. Its a good start to the younglings summer at the cinema for sure. Could have been so much worse.
