Today could be a mission. The plan, get into brighton, see the fall guy, race back to parents for back to back football then dinner & then the F1 how hard can that all be? Turns out more of a mission than i thought. However both Brighton & Liverpool won & you might want to sit down for this… SO DID LANDO FUCKING NORRIS!!! WOOHOO BEST SPORTING DAY EVER! So lets also see if the film lived up to the epic day.
About 60 people in my screen x screening for this film, which was pretty decent i was well happy with with for the 10:40 am showing. However i wasnt happy that people kept walking in through the side door thinking it was screen 5 & then talking before realising the film was half way through. Not cool. This has been happening a lot recently in this screen.
Honestly i cant remember the trailers, i should have done a pre write up shouldnt i, oh well, my own fault for actually writing more reviews that pre writes. This may be a thing going forward now unless i do the pre write on the same day.
& then the film started… now that is a modern new blockbuster.
This film has been deemed a flop because after almost 7 months of being a trailer before every other action film it didnt make $100mil globally the first week. Im sorry isnt that what word of mouth is all about peoples. To say to others & go oh you need to go see that. That was what happened with Top Gun Maverick 2 years ago. Original opening was low & then 6 weeks later it was announced it was staying in cinemas as it was still taking the same then as opening weekend & it was in the cinema all summer. You need to give films faith before just putting them on streaming services like 4 weeks later. Fuck that. The point of the cinema is the sound & the sight unless you have that kind of sound system at home & have every film in bluray or 4k you wont get the full feel for it. I sat at my parents the other week watching the bomb go off in Oppenheimer & was like hmm not the same effect damn it. The noise or the silence & then the after shock made it in the cinema both times. The Cinema viewing & hearing for some films is so so important & a film like this needs that.
Rant over sorry… anyhow…
Ryan Gosling was so so so good. Like i know hes always really good, but damn he owns this & this character & persona & the way they made the film is just incredible what he does. I get that its not all him but his stunt men too, but bloody hell. HEs full on im Mr Hollywood here, kind of a Brad Pitt early 00s vibe before he got the mr & mrs smith gig if that makes sense.
Everyone else in this film was so good too. Emily, Hannah, Aaron, Winston (who i had no idea was in it) all owned it. No one missed a beat & neither did all the incredible stunt people & team & coordinators. It just worked so well & it felt like i was actually spying on bits of the film at some points & then remembered ahh the behind the scenes stuff is apart of this movie.
Any film that includes clips from the Bourne Ultimatum, gets an extra half star from me. Loved the love to the iconic action & stunt scenes we all love to watch again & again. Without the stunt people these films would never be made.
All those post it notes. When this comes out to watch at home, there will be a detailed search through all of them frame by frame. I am sure there are a lot of easter eggs in there about other films & this film, because there was 1 i clocked which i thought was throw away & then had an epic pay off at the end loved it.
Foreshadowing that Act 3 needed working on & would be rubbish & then for it to be fucking insane & so good was ultimate movie playing the film knew what it was talking about & what it was going to deliver for everyone.
I saw one twist coming but not the other & was like of course they bloody did. Why didnt i work that out.
There were so many small little things that were called back on which did just work so well & were clever. Got to love the boat scene for the main version of that.
The one shot clip they make, brilliant. I like that it is so edited to a montage too. Also the whole apology scene, brilliant, the ultimate revenge.
It was so well paced. IT gave you enough time to catch your breath & then went for it. It kept you looking forward to what the next thing was be it a moment of calm or a moment of insanity & stunts & action.
Please watch the end credits, because it proves why the academy need to award an oscar for best stunt performer or coordinator. They really do work so hard ot make it look so real & good.
This film made me laugh & smile & was a very good story which delivered more than just being filled than stunts & action.
Its solid & spectacular & i hope the “flop” is deemed legendary by the endif the year, because this film is to good for people to not watch. If you want a modern original cinema summer blockbuster this is the film for you.
