Right Mr Oldman let’s see what you can do it’s your time to shine Sir let’s get this going.
Mama Popcorn wanted to see this film, so I thought I’d treat her to it. Why not? I get in for free I get the Odeon points for her purchase it’s free parking. She wanted to see it as early as possible which when she said that was fine, but when she was hung over after being at my sisters birthday & not getting home til 2am (I was driving not drinking) she wasn’t so keen on the wake up in the morning.See I don’t go to the cinema when everyone goes to the cinema now. So it was interesting to see how many people were in there. Not bad really about a third full for an 11:30 showing that’s not bad.Trailers we had a war film with Sam Claflin in, the post, the shape of water 3 billboards special, the old people retiring film about living your Life again & a weird one about Colin Firth on a boat who gets lost. Then the film started. Oh if Gary Oldman doesn’t win that Oscar I will… erm I dunno iv eaten a hat before so I can’t do that erm I dunno I’ll do something crazy like watch all the crappest films in the world that I actively avoid. That not going to happen though he’s going to win he’s got to. I haven’t seen a performance like that since Colin Firth in the Kings Speech. I wanted to applaud him whenever he finished his ranting, or his politically motivated words. He made me cry when he did his we will fight on the beaches etc I was just so involved that you just knew that those few minutes changed the world forever. What a performance emotional ruthless loving funny brave vulnerable & powerful. He carried the rest of the film entirely. There were moment when I looked at him & I didn’t see Churchill I did see Oldman or Gordon or Serious & just went oh there he is I see him. But it was only a few times he’s make up & costumer were so stunning. The rest of the cast were good. But none as good as Gary. The king was good but didn’t stammer enough. He was really well acted it was almost as if he was channeling Firth.I’m so glad I have been to Churchill war rooms in London. It gave me a much greater depth as to what was there & how it was laid out. I loved the bit on the tube that was cool. Especially the line we’ve just lost the prime minister.
One thing that did hack me off was the date. Yes it was nice to see the time frame but the font was huge & it would go from 20th to 25th we wouldn’t see 21 & 22 & 23 & 24 fly past the screen.Go & see this film people just for Gary’s performance. The rest of the film is very good but Oldman just blows everything else out of the water.
