A Promise of Sam Rockwell being an Evil Wolf at the cinema… yes please, i am up for that. So yea lets randomly go see The Bad Guys. Im not feeling to good either so i need a pick me up of some harmless animated fun.
6:20pm showing is a family showing isnt it, but this really is the kids showing. Lots of families which is fair enough. I do think i was the only odd one here too.
Hardly any adverts & only 3 trailers caught some families out. The Trailers were Minions 2 (yes), Lightyear (yes) & something else it wasnt super pets but it was a kids film for sure urgh what was it. It wasnt Dumbledore argh… ahh the railway children that was it (no).
& then the film started… well this proves that any film with Sam Rockwell in is improved even if it is just his voice. He made something a bit average, be okay.
I know im a member of the Sam Rockwell fan club & me saying that doesnt actually prove anything, however, he did. It needed someone who’s know for being a bit grim & a bit crazy to be the lead even if it was just the voice. Its also instantly recognisable & so cool. So it works for Mr Wolf really well.
Richard Ayoade… oh my. I mean yessss. I saw it coming but, i need him as a Guinee pig in my life, i really really do. Whoever decided to do that, give them a bonus. Epic casting. & just yes. (once youve seen it we will chat).
All the kids in my cinema were having some proper laughs at everything that was happening in the film they really were & then there were a few gags that went entirely over their heads & all us adults just sniggered & were like yes thats brilliant. The Wolf in sheep’s clothing got the biggest laugh of all from everyone.
I understand introducing the character yes, but forth wall breaking in a kids film, where it only happens at the end of the start & then at no other point, that would have been missed on the main target audience. I mean its not even like Vice where it used as shock value (i can talk about Vice now right?). Im not sure the film needed that.
Story wise, very easy as an adult to see where it was going, where the twists were coming & what was going to go down in the end, but for a kid i can imagine some of those moments being ohhhh wow kind of bits, so it worked there. Its also at the end of the day, a set of mini heist films, which is always good for someone who loves that genre like me.
Animation was good & was well dont & very stylish & suave like the bad guys. However, i was expecting more of a mixed up ratio of animals to humans. Literally everyone else in the film was human & the 7 main people were animals. I was expecting there to be like a panda or a cat or some other animals to be in the film & just be walking around like a human & living a life. But nah. So that didnt make sense, either make them all animals or have a better ratio.
Good life lesson about being good & bad too, i mean i know they are the bad guys, but everyone learnt their lesson throughout the film, so that was good. It made them better bad guys.
Cake everybody loves Cake. & i love that fridge door, that was really sweet, proper friendship that, no matter what.
IT was a good mid level animation, which had enough to keep adults entertained while there kids watch it & for their kids to have a blast. Stylish cool & a good interesting story, yea this exceeded my expectations if im honest. Very happy with that. A nice evening out that was.
