Monday film time. This week is actually really quiet for me for films just this trip. You can tell award season is now over, & we are gearing up for the blockbuster season arent we. Only films that know they are going to do well with no competition are going to come out in March.
So after this film being in almost every set of trailers for the year, & it being on at an okayish sort of time why not. I mean it should be good its got a good cast & subject matter. Lets do this people.
Screen 7 had 18 people in it (19 i count myself {i normally dont}) but that doesnt bode well. Also lots of them had premier seats which is a little weird & they were all much older than me. I think i was the only millennial in there.
Trailers, we had Captain Marvel (go girl) Dumbo ( go elephant) Red Joan (Dench) & an odd film with Lucas Hedges in it about gangs. Its not often i remember all the trailers so i am impressed i have done that . Questions cinemas when are you going to put Endgame trailers on your big screen we need even the short one come on, i am groot.
& then the film started… I kinda wish it hadnt. It was not very good at all.
Not even Alexander Skarsgard without his shirt on for about 5mins saves this film. Its a nice distraction for that period of the film but its not something to make you go oh this is fantastic.
It was dull, unromantic. All chemistry between every single actor be to to a friends lover wife colleague felt forced & unreal & not very well performed. None of the actors felt like they were enjoying their work in this film or really wanted to be there.
Keira Knightly was so wooden. Im now beginning to think shes not actually a very good actress & that she still acts like shes 19 with Orlando. But her character is so unlikable & selfish & up herself & i really wanted her to be punched in the face & be told to fuck off by everyone she wasnt happy when she didnt get her own way & was even more so when she did. Spoilt brat.
The only character i actually cared about was that kid who was the driver. He was the only one i had any emotion towards, even before an event happens.
It didnt need to be set against the background it was it didnt add anything to it or any drama or high stakes & the romance wasnt needed ever if you wanted a gritty film it didnt know what i wanted to be. You know if youre having a film set after the war how about a bit more of the horrors & anything that did start making it dark, was very much hushed over & brushed away like oh that happened.
The thing that really pissed me off though was the ending. They chickened out of something epic which would have had a really strong lessons & teach certain people point & just prove that there was more important stuff to life than what was going on between them all. But no they went for the safe bland & boring option which was so bad. I wanted to be sick & shout at the screen.
I have seen this film so you dont have to. At least the Favourite isnt the worst film of the year now. This is just so dreadful.
