its that time of year, the festive theme film thats actually something else time. Last year was violent night this year its thanksgiving. A comedy horror by the looks of it with (somehow dont ask how) the sexiest man alive Patrick Dempsey in it… yea answers on a post card, did our man turn it down? anyhow, lets go see a scary movie to start my weekend off.
This was a straight after work job, but i was still impressed with the number of people in my screening for 6:10. There 2 groups of teens but the rest of it was us (millennials) & the gen bellow. We know what were getting. We know whats going down so were her for the grimness.
I honestly cant remember the trailers. There was one for Napoleon, but i cant remember the others. I know that 2 were horror which i wasnt bothered by. Maybe Aquaman they like to throw that in at the moment to remind us it is happening soon (which i do keep forgetting).
& then the film started… & it was not as grim as i thought it was going to be but it really did have some moments for sure.
I was very pleased with myself that i worked it out & then something happened at a scene & i was like hmmm maybe i was wrong & then it was revealed i was right originally. Never second guess yourself Emile, you had it so so right & then you changed your mind but you should have stuck with it.
Some of the deaths were predictable & easy to see & some were iconic. I mean they all had some very good comedy elements to them, im not sure they were trying to make it as funny, but ahhh some were. Especially the first revenge death & then the one with someone who did deserve it & what happened to them & what happened afterwards. I mean damn. It was grim but i was sitting there trying not to laugh which was hard. All im going to say is we all need that big an oven for christmas.
I get the villains eventual reveal for why they did what they did, but it was never illuded to as to why before the reveal. I mean there were clues but i picked that person for well reasons other than them maybe being a villain, but other than the murdering they didnt do much over evil stuff, i kind of expected more than just a few Instagram posts. The clues for this kind of film need to hide more in plane sight but they didnt.
I get why they cast as they did but other than 2 of the teenagerish leads, none of the others were convincing. I know teens are meant to irritate in these kind of movies but trust me when i sit here & go nope thats just bad over acting when you cant act at all. It got so frustrating. &that love triangle was weird. I mean she had no chemistry with either so maybe that did make sense but the two guys really didnt give a crap at all.
This film was meant to be set in 2022/2023… yet a black friday sale has not had chaos like that since what 2005 to 2010. Nah not buying it. Also those kids would have so got their sale gifts in advance if her dad really did care about her. ^ she could have said bloody no.
The finale was generic after i thought it was going to get grim but it has set it up for the obvious sequel to happen at some point. Also how did the police find the other people, thats never explained.
The parade was cool, but so awkward. It was a bit like ahh were going to culminate act 1 & 2 into this one scene but then it never got going after the oven again. I know horror movies have a kind of rhythm they all stick to but this, it went all over the place at points.
It did its job & it did leave me guessing. I know i sit here & go non famous actors make you believe the story more, but it was improved when a few faces were in it at points. It delivered on the deaths & the jokes, but at the end of the day this is a generic holiday horror movie about learning lessons. It does what it says on the tin & there is a time & a place for it.
