Please say its good & matches the hype please please please please
Spider-man time because one more super-hero cant be saturating the market too much. Like hell it is there’s still Aqua-man to come for crying out loud, we have seen too many this year. But i remember seeing an advert for this about a year ago so its been a long time coming, im invested in this & im up for seeing what actually does happen.
Pretty mixed bag of people watching it if im honest. From groups of kids & family, to comic & super hero nerds to an older couple (mid 50’s ish), a proper good mix proof that everyone loves a superhero film.
Trailers were all for kids films so lego part 2, Dragons, Dumbo, Mary Poppins & Bumblebee, which is fair enough you know, it is a kids film this so it should advertise this.
& then the film started… & its exceeded what i thought it would do oh man.
This is the perfect introduction for kid into superhero films. It really is, its someone they can relate too, its modern, its funny & sweet & their parents or family that will have to sit through it 30000 times will enjoy it each time they watch it.
I was properly laughing through it, it made me smile, it made me tear up not cry but i got emotional at points.
I need to mention the end credits & mid credits at this point which you need to stay for because the first is sweet & then its mad. But the reason the first is sweet is for the Stan Lee Cameo we get in the film, which was obviously there & written that way before hi passing a few weeks prior to the release. But it was so sweet it was brilliant.
There were some lovely through back to some previous spider-man & marvel films which were super clever & brilliant to watch. Its up there with when lego Batman did its ones. I like the little hi im spider-man bits you get throughout, they were very clever too.
Huge call to make spider-man a young black american Kid, but also huge kudos for casting Chris Pine as Peter Parker, that was amazing. Chris Pine doesnt make bad films does he.
It knew what it had to be in the super hero genre. IT took itself seriously when it needed too, but it didnt forget that it was a kids film or a comedy & that the world was at stake too. At no point did it go hang on where were we on this side of the story, it kept on track despite lots of switches amongst genres.
When he gets bitten by the spider, & just plays it off, i havent laughed that much in a film for a long time. It may just go over kids heads but every adult in that cinema was properly rofling. It was just telling.
The story was simple & clever too, it kept to the original but also gave you bits too look out for & to set up the next stage without realising it.
If there is still a cinema showing this, please take your child to see this film. They will really enjoy it. It doesnt dumb it down, its visually stunning & its got an epic soundtrack. Seriously everyone just left the cinema with a huge smile on their face.
& heres the telling line for this film to leave you with. Even though there was a talking pig & a robot anime girl from the future, there were several points where i had to remind myself that the film was animated & wasnt real.
Golden buzzer contender at this late stage of the year.
