Please dont freak out at what im about to say… ive never seen this film…
Okay yeah maybe freak out
Im sorry but its long & i usually find it at like 1pm half way through & then i go ahh i’ll hunt for that & then forget about it so this being on at the cinema, is the perfect way for me to make sure i do sit down & watch this. So here i am at 7:15 ready for the madness.
FYI I do have a rough idea what happens im not that unclued.
If say there was about 60 people in my screening for the 30th birthday of this film. I did feel young it was mainly people in their late 40s ot 50s which is there enough. They would have been in their late teens & 20s when this came out. Its their film.
Trailers GLADIATOR! (Ohhh Marcus) Speak no evil, afrAId(maybe) Speak no evil(probably) The critic (yes already booked) & i cant remember what the other trailer was but it was horror i just cant remember.
& then the film started… Im sorry Quentin that this took a while to see, i really really am.
I didnt go in completely blind, but i didnt realise the film would leap about that much for a narrative. It did throw me a little but i knew we ended & started in the Diner, but i just assumed those two would pop up else where other than just the diner. That being said when it does link to it, it does work. It does then feel odd that stuff happens after that.
Jackson & Travolta didnt just own it, they changed the acting game from that point. Like this film is now 30 years old & ive seen a couple of their scenes before, but it felt like whenever they shared a screen that it could have been made in the last 10 years. They are the perfect double act. So cool. So charismatic. Loved them.
Can we also appreciate the cinematography of them walking to that room at the start with the kids. Like for the 90s wow, fucking incredible. The conversation is important but isnt. It just oozes coolness still & the whole green & grey vibe. Yea the film nerd in me was like ahhh. This isnt saying Vick, Bruce & Uma werent good. They were all good too especially Bruce.
I now know where all the memes come from so thank you for the context. There was one person in my screening doing the DiCaprio point at one of them & we all had a laugh at that.
I like an end that not the end, it did work but knowing it wasnt the end was like ahhhh.
When John Travolta starts dancing, the world stops. That whole scene from the moment they arrive is unhinged but so good. But yea those hip start rolling & your sold.
Quentin it took a while for him to turn up, but i love that he was the most normal person in the entire bloody film & that shit was going to go down if it wasnt sorted out. But his foot fetish turned up really early on & i rolled my eyes. He loves some toes doesnt he.
Was i meant to laugh as much as i did? I found it very funny at points. There were other people laughing too im just checking thats the right thing to do. Especially at a few niche bits linked to other films since that quote pulp fiction.
WINSTON WOLF!!!!!!!!! FINALLY IVE FOUND HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The violence was necessary at points, the rape less so but the rest of it was grim but done correctly for back then & now.
Im already looking forward to seeing this again. Now ive seen it in full & it randomly appears one evening on tv i can just jump in & go yes i can watch this. Im going to have to watch all of Quentin’s films arent i to work out whats the best… cos i think it might be this.
