Advanced preview time, i bloody love these. Todays offering is piece by piece. The lego biopic of Pharrell. Lets see what all the fuss is about shall we cos the trailers have looked weird.
A room full of millennials. Well not full maybe about 35 of us. Yes i counted, i had the time to count.
Now usually before a kids films there lots of trailers for kids films, but this was an advanced preview. So it was Conclave, Gladiator, Kraven, We Live in Time & then Sonic, but still so weird to see a kids film have adverts for films kids will never see.
& then the film started…. This is not a kids film, its for millennials.
You seriously forget how many banger Pharrell has had or has had a hand it, because damn. It was literally a room of us all bobbing our head & nodding along & foot tapping. This room full of millenials all left very happy. All picking our favourite songs or starts from this era of music. We were living our best life for sure.
The whole lego format worked so well. You did at points forget you were watchign a lego film, but it also was still so lego. It was just such a refershing way to do a biopic. There have been so many lack luster musical biopic films, but this had Pharrell all over it. It was done on his terms.
I loved how all the celbrities were put into the lego. I mean the highlight was Snoop both as a human & as a dog lego piece. But as millenials we all know Snoop loves to smoke a bit, so in order to get the lego characters high they had a can or “PG Spray”!!!!! We all laughed very very hard. Litrally i think i missed 4 jokes because of that. But that snake around Britney & JT doing like i love you, brilliant.
The actual documentry style was good too. You actual got some real opinons. Yes they were all toned down a little to make it a kids film, but it was a good idea. Him telling it in his order & why it was good & then why it wasnt. I mean even the end of the film where hes not being interviewed was good. It reminded you this was more than just lego.
I am glad that it showed you some of the lows of beign famous too. So often films like this only add it or ham it up a bit for more drama. But here it was a constant flow from one this working to another, it told the right story.
Daft Punk & Nile Rogers! I want that lego set! Lego make it for me now! I beg you!
This is advertised as a kids film as theres only 1 bit of mild swearing & a few bits of innuendo, & its made of lego. But its not a kids film. This is for us millenials 100%. Seriously a 6 year olf will leave this tapping their foot but wont actually care other than some shiny lego & will get bored, but you as an adult will get in your car & put on your 00s r’n’b playlist for sure.
What an ingenious way to do a biopic.
