The Baftas were last night… which means I have under 2 weeks to complete my Oscar list. After this one I have 3 to go so am course to get them all done & completed.
It does pain me that I have to pay for this on a Monday night. The Odeon despite the huge poster for this film that’s in the entrance hall for the last 5 weeks haven’t shown this at all & this unless tomorrow they announce they are showing it next week, is my only chance to see it. So I’m off to Worthing to see if it’s any good or not.
They’ve done up the studio room at the Connought… when the fuck did that happen. Last time i was in there to see a film was Spectre, but they have. They have about 10 rows on the floor then a ponsy stair case to climb & then a balcony with about another 8 rows on it i guess, so you can get height. Comfortable seats much better view but they could have got more people in there. Go back another 5 rows then build your balcony. Still was a little bit to close to the screen for me.
I lowered the average age in the cinema to about 52 (thats me being generous as to how young some of the oldies were). I must say though they all mumbled & talked through the film… not to each other more like sitting there going whos that, did she do that, i dont get that, oh no etc. I did actually say on my way out to a staff member while everyone was still watching the credits that people had talked & mumbled throughout, & she went hmmm sorry. That was it. It was like a really crap directors cut commentary. I couldnt tell you how many people were in there, i couldnt see below my raised seat.
Trailer wise was a really mixed bag, Lady Bird (fair enough i get why your showing that), finding your feet (which everyone else was properly laughing at & i was just going mmmm) a live performance NT one & then Ready Player One (yay) which they were all going hmm nah thats just cgi crap (seriously thats what the couple next to me said.
Then the film started & i with no idea at all came out thoroughly surprised. I really enjoyed it i  really did. Its a lovely romantic but dark twisted romance film, but it fitted & suited everything.
Daniel Day-Lewis is very very good. I mean hes not Gary Oldman good by hes still good, but hes not as good as there will be blood, when he yells about abandoning his son. I think hes right to retire, while hes still this good. But if he hadnt announced that would he have got the Oscar Nomination for this… erm yea probably.
The strong 3 way relationship between the main characters was just fascinating & i really wanted to know if someone was going to back stab, or be mean , or kind to which everyones turn it was next. It was mesmerising, & probably the film would have worked it had been 3 different actors. It was just organic.
That House…. oh i want to live in it all those stairs, that large hall. the cubbys brilliant. The one in the country side too oohhh i know i technically live on the edge of the countryside but that was proper countryside.
& those outfits & dresses too. I know nothing about fashion at all. As i type this im in my batman training academy PJs & olaf slippers with a plaster on my head from where i just headbutted my chest of draws to find my slippers… i digress… but yea that was fashion, oh yes, like the girl said i would die to be in one of those dresses, & then you can bury me in it.

One stumbling point, which is hard to explain without spoiling it. Something happens that one character does to another, & it effects the other characters, & makes the character it happens too realise something is needed in there life. At the end of the film a very similar thing happens again where the character its happening to, knows its going to happen & the other character explains why they did it. I think we could have had a more suspended ending with more tension if we hadnt previously known this character previous endeavours. Does that make sense. I just think it would be a better ending, & make you have more sympathy with them.
So maybe this is the future then know nothing about any film (thats going to be very hard) but i really enjoyed not having a clue at all. A really good film, i enjoyed it. But with it being a strong oscar year, it will be lucky if it wins anything.
