Its been a very very long time since ive done an advanced screening of a film, but i need to see this film, its all my letterboxd besties keep talking about. So as its a bank holiday, why not. Im looking forward to this to see if it is as beautiful as everyone says it is & if it is going to emotionally ruin me. Lets go so the advanced preview of Past lives.

Almost sold out. Im guessing a lot of people had heard the buzz online & were like let me see it. I want to go so obviously word does travel fast. But i did have no one sitting next to me. Also cheers cineworld for the free Apple Tango i got for attending this. Very happy with that.

Trailers, Dumb money (that looks insanely good) Scrapper (which was weird as that was seen as an advanced screening) the creator (yes) & Death in Venice(yes sir Ken it looks insane).

The cineworld unlimited add to remind us all to add a friend for a month 3 was so irritating. Look we all know how our scheme works. We are the reason you are still afloat cineworld, we dont need any of you irritating Cineworld adverts we do all of this.

& then the film started… It was beautiful, but i think it would have worked better as a tv show than a film.

It was very beautiful & sweet. It get why everyone is head over heels for this film. It had a good heart & soul & was adorable & you really did love all the characters in it. The majority of it is in Korean though, so it was reading subtitles for the majority of it, so i think a couple of the jokes or sarcasm were missed in translation because you didnt pick up the tone. Some did work, especially when his mate goes oh poor guy, but its not about the girl having a partner, but about the fact that when he is meant to go to New York its meant to be stormy for a lot of the days.

I liked the three different parts of their story. It works, but there are parts which we rush through quickly. This could have actually done with being 3hours long, or 3 1hour tv episodes like the Before Sunrise etc series (you know the films i mean) Especially as kids, maybe a few more minutes back there & not so much the jokes about face book. I like that we know little about the in between years but there were bits not even mentioned about the past which they would have brought up at points.

Im not moaning about the kid actors, i dont like doing that, but that was the hardest part of their relationship to believe in. It just all felt forced a bit.

The husband is brilliant, her American husband, who usually is seen as a bad guy in this kind of film, but he is actually really good & sweet & does everything he can to accommodate & be helpful & accepting. I really like his character arc.

The joke about looking people up on Facebook, yep that still a thing hehe.

Theres a couples moment when they are in Brooklyn by the carousel & everyone’s loved up & theres a clear space between them, i liked that. It proved how they had grown to become different people. This is also shown by her being 12 wanting a Nobel prize & now being 36 wanting to win a tony instead. How your priorities in life change.

I liked how it started with the people talking about them & what they might be saying & who they were. I thought we were going to hear more from them trying work them out & then seeing if they got it right or wrong.

Now im not sure about the Korean past lives proverb & if it is legend or myth, but it is an interesting theory & does make sense. ITs a clever way of seeing it. At least we didnt go multiverse on us all, thank god for that.

Once again, people in films afford prime retail property with minimal income, obviously & also get drunk til 3 am & dont look hungover at all. Thats not realistic.

I was worried about the end. but im glad, they could have got it wrong, but they got it right.

It was well acted, but was that just because i didnt know any of the actors & it was not in my language? hmmmm.

I enjoyed it none the less. I know theres about 8 people i can recommend this too who will enjoy this for lots of reasons. Was it the scream it from the rood top that Letterboxd was on about? no not for me. But it was still a good film.
