A day before the rest of the world hahaha america take that. Yep the much delayed Morbius we in the UK get a whole 24 hours before America, so im going to see this straight after work today, because why the hell not. This has looked interesting for a while & im sure i was chatting about the trailers all the way in back in 2019, so to finally have it in 2022, well we got here at least.
So my cinema friend was back woohoo. I turned up & went to get my ticket scanned & he went ahhh inception girl & then we proceeded to have a chat about Morbius & what id seen recently. so cheers adam, i mean we did delay some people from getting into their screening & his manager gave him some looks of stop chatting start moving people in please. look he was chatting film. it was my fault not his.
Opening day of Morbius 6:10 showing id say was 60% full (sure the 7pm showing in screen x was packed) id say everyone was around my age too. All millennials who love some Leto & Smith & the MCU. Its our little snackett before doctor strange.
Trailers The Northman (yes) Unbearable Weight (yes{someone in my screening when the trailer ended actually said out loud thats going to the be the best crap movie of the year & they are 100% right}) doctor strange (yes), NOPE (yes) & Bullet Train (which i hadnt seen the trailer for up to that point & now im like actually yea maybe i will).
& then the film started… I was so hyped for this, like quite a bit. Some really dark super hero stuff, with aspects of horror, well & truly what i like… lets just say i have seen worse super hero films, but not many. It just didnt work im sorry it didnt.
Leto was okay. He’s got a lot of stick for some of his performances recently. Im not on the jump an actor & slag them off before they even make a film, its proven the man is an amazing actor. But his method acting isnt needed for a lowkey super hero film, it doesnt add it to it. He was okay, but even when he was being normal i could relate. He tried too hard.
Matt Smith was alright & was acting his arse off his role, he really was. He is trying to live his best life & have fun with a poor script. He didnt take it seriously & just went for the wackiness of it all. That dance, was pretty cool, but did we really need it nah.
So the opening scene of the film is the coolest & most oooooh & mesmerising part of the film, it was really good & strong & cool & interesting, &then its not referenced again, or even really talked about again. It just spent all of the budget on that 5min & then went ahh how are we going to make the rest of the film. More like that than the rest of the film.
Some of the CGI wasnt good. I mean how many times to we need to see him use his eco location & cityscapes & the random colours to kind of fly off people to show their quick movements. IT was like you were watching something not in HD in 2010, remember that. IT just didnt work.
There wasnt enough jokes to make it light & fit in with any other super hero film.
Where was the horror? seriously? I dont like horror, i was looking forward to this to be the right level of horror for me, but nah. Yes he is a vampire & hes biting people & drinking blood but still. Not once did i jump or go ahh or want to look away, at no point. The only point where i was ever concerned was when that girl cut her finger. That was it. It didnt deliver on that.
I can see why this was delayed again in January when we had all pre-booked it & it was arriving in cinemas in canisters then. Covid was back to being big, which obviously comes from Bats. This film talks about mixing Bat & Human DNA together. yea not happening is it. I mean yes it turns him into a super hero & its mad, however the idea of mixing it in a lab wasnt good to show was it.
The fights you couldnt really see or had far too much CGI going on that slowed it down far to slow & the speed it up so much that you couldnt see it. IT was such a mis match.
Even the cinematography of the cityscapes couldnt save it. The script didnt deliver, there was no line where you though oooh that was going to be epic or iconic in years to come. You thought it could delver on one.
2 early credit scenes nothing at the end. I mean it wasnt even early credit & mid, nah both early & both didnt add anything too it. It had so much potential to do something fantastic, but nah it just didnt at all.
& there were lots of bits from the many many film trailers ive seen over the last 4 years, that werent in the film or even referenced. I felt cheated.
This really was a meh low average film but it makes you appreciate when superhero films are done well, it really does. I am never going to moan about the incredible hulk or the original suicide squad film again. This just had so much potential & i really wanted it to work, but it just didnt.
