It is time for the number 1 pick of the hit list of 2025. Mission Impossible, The Final Reckoning. The final mission impossible film. Ive woken up feeling like its the day before christmas eve, thats the feeling i have today. Ive also heard mixed things about this film in the last week since the premiers, so im trying to go in without pre judgement.
Ive gone IMAX at 7pm on opening wednesday. I dont want to see it in normal scream & think eh would it have been better in imax. Id rather go see it on that screen &then go well i saw it in the best ratio so im happy. So i went striaght from work (via holmbush {why are M&S toilets the best} for dinner) & am now up at crawley with my tiramisu latte.
It was all but sold out. Mainly because the seat to the left of me was empty…WINNING!!! hehe. There was a girl who walked in during the adverts who was like ahh its loud, good luck love your going to have you ears exploding by the end of this.
Trailers F4 (yessssssssss) Superman (yessssss) How to Train your Dragon (yessssssssss) F1(yes but for some reason its weird watching the trailer for this in the cinema) Ballerina (yesssssssssssss) & Jurassic World (yes but only for the bailey). We didnt have the f4 imax intro though. oooh wealso had that mini preview of the naked gun which everyone laughed at but it was part of the paramount advert before the film started.
& then the film…. WAIT! It didnt… So after the imax screen intro before the bbfc rating card the screen went black & there was an audible gasp from the entire cinema, with a video message from Tom Cruise, thanking us all for coming to the cinema to see the film opening weekend. Ive asked a few other people in different countries & here, not everyone got this. He thanked us for our loyalty to film & cinema &thanked everyone for making the films go on for as long & then said im glad to see you all at the movies. Loved it… fucking loved it.
& then the film started… that was exactly what i wanted the film to be. I have no complaints.
I cried… Twice. Before i went in i thought i might well up but no i actually cried & it made me sit through most of the credits as i did to calm down too. I mean that also then helped me catch my breath & calm down in general, but yea i was not expecting that many tears. The person who got the last words yea i felt that. It was done for a reason.
I’ve read a lot of people going ohh the first hour drags & that its mis-paced… Fuck no! Those 2hours & 50mins flew by. They flew by in the best way as well. It dropped the exposition it had to, in the most mission impossible ways possible. I liked the flashbacks with everyone who had been in it in the past & who they were to Ethan. It then hit you for 6 with the stunts & the missions. So anyone who says this is bogged down in itself & spends to long explaining is wrong. This is only asking us to watch 7 other films over 30 years (yes i did rewatch them all before this again) but when the mcu except you to see a tv show thats been on the channel for like 3 weeks to know who someone is in a film is a bit much.
So theres a submarine scene (it was in the film before this one & was also in the trailer that he was going to do a mission to-do with a submarine) & there is minimal score to it. I genuinely saw everyone around me at my screen edge forward & collectively hold their breath for points of it. & what was going through my mind during one of the most stressful parts of modern cinema… that it reminded me of the Crystal Maze lock in water lever from back in the day. If you dont know your childhood wasnt traumatised watching it. Yea Tom Cruise is busy saving the world & all thats going through my head is the crystal maze theme. Both the 3min game & the submarine were as stressful.
IMAX was so justified, as a cinephile the transition with the submarines & the screen to put it in that aspect was stunning, i loved it. & the noise or lack of it at some points, phenomenal. I hope that girl i mentioned earlier coped with the noise because it did get jarring at points. But this film needs as big a screen as possible. This might be one i have to watch on my sisters projector in her back garden at some point.
There was one point where Tom was running (some epic runs in this especially in london & off the top of that airship into the frozen sea) When they started to move their hands to run with him. Our little section had a giggle for sure.
This isnt for the Casual. I do recommend you do your home work before going. Espeically the following
Mission Impossible
MI3
Fallout (because its the best)
& Dead Reckoning
Im mean you should watch them all (including the second just to appreciate the rest even more). But dont just go see this cos youve got nothing else to see. You need to have invested in it.
I love how Tom gets people in these films that hes seen in other movies in the last couple of years & just puts them all in this. Nick, Hannah & Katy (who i had no idea & actually went Fuck out loud when she appeared looking fit as fuck) & a few others as well all just seem like this is their way of Tom thanking them for making stuff he has enjoyed.
The planes are cool, very cool. Its the perfect way to have all of that going on as act 3, which takes about an hour. Can we also please congratulate them on the message they had. Yes its cost millions but this is realness vs ai, which is the whole movie.
The whole nuclear & world fall out commentary & fake news was so important too. really makes you think & go yea the world is falling apart. Maybe some of these world leaders need to look at themselves & what they would do in that situation.
If this is the end of the franchise, this is how you end it. You dont do what they did with no time to die. You do this & you own it & prove a point without forgetting what makes you good.
So yea, for once ive got the number 1 pick not just spot on but epically spot on. This did exactly what i wanted it to do. It was fun. it was entertaining, it made me laugh, smile, feel stressed & Cry. It ticked everything i wanted.
& i know Tom is crazy & in charge of a cult & but if he is getting people into cinemas & saving them(even with sequels) i aint going to complain if they are all good. He always says he will see us at the movies & yes i am a later comer to these films but damn its been one hell of a journey.
Yea this is a buzzer contender peoples, dont believe the online hate, they just want the click bait. Go see this film on the big screen before it & this review self destructs in 5 seconds…..
