Friday two films yay… but with a difference. Odeon first then home, have dinner, then pick friends up & then head to the beach (we will get to the beach later) but yea double bubble films yet again. Time to be nostalgic too with the return of men in black.
Screen 8 for a huge blockbuster on the day of release is a bit odd & it the perfect time too for lots of people, so this does baffle me a little. but at least it was full, which is always good to see.
Trailers we had yesterday, far from home, hobbs & shaw, toy story 4 & stuber. All bankable all i will go & see so that was nice very nice. Also very intrigued when we get to Toy Story next week if we will be going back to the moon man.
& then the film started… & it hit the nostalgia in a good way & delivered a traditional men in black film.
Lets applaud the chemistry between Hemsworth & Thompson, it always works doesnt it. It really is something to admire & it makes the film move so fluidly.
Not enough Emma Thompson if im honest. I know shes in demand at the moment & its only a recurring part she has, but i really would of preferred to have seen more of her than Neeson.
Kumail’s Pawney is brilliant & everything you want in a little alien side kick. I know hes not frank but he is good, be good if he actually used more alien abilitys than was shown but that can be explored next time if they do another one.
The ending was too generic & predictable for this genre of film at the moment & when you work out what will happen a little bit earlier you feel a bit oh really you didnt go further shame. Could of done so much more with the ending.
I like the fact the opening credits stayed the same, & was so retro like the original film, was very happy with that.
There was one moment where a few things happen where i started laughing & the random girl next to me started laughing & we kinda looked at each other & she went oh god you get that too, then the joke continued & we both continued to full on belly laugh with each other, while the rest of the cinema sat in silence, while we were crying from giggles. Its not that much of a weird in joke & i was surprised noone else but me & her got it if im honest.
Going back to Pawney, i really want to know a bit more about some of the aliens & as to why they were here or not like in the first ones. They just seemed to be here like oh Aliens live on earth now thats normal.
Shout out to North Greenwich Tube Station for being in another film.
Its going to be really interesting to see where they go from here with this. Who are we going on the journey with which aliens are sticking around. Its going to be interesting to see what survives.
I enjoyed it. Its not ground breaking cinema & does every now & then feel a little lasy, but as far as a nostalgia men in black trip it serves its purpose. If you enjoyed any of the first 3 you will like this one. You do need some prior knowledge to love it, but i think most people will find it pleasant & a good popcorn film.
