i was going to see kong v godzilla this weekend & then i didnt wake up on time & then when i looked at the traffic i realised there was a huge accident so i was like what do i watch this weekend, so i looked at my local cinema & behold, they had late night with the devil. Ive only seen the trailer for this once & it looked interesting so im heading off to go & watch this so then my sleep pattern isnt completely fucked at the moment due to F1.
It was pretty packed, well the balcony part of my screening was, im not sure about the rest of it but that was almost full.
I arrived during the trailers, living only a 10min drive away means i can time it perfectly for parking only costing £1.50 but they had trailers for Dune 2 which is odd as they are showing it, their batman special, immaculate which they dont have yet & also what to come in the next week.
& then the film started… & it was exactly like a 1970s american chat show, so much so i got so used to it & had to remind myself at points that i was at the cinema.
The vibe was so right. It really was strangely comforting. The way he stood & had his tv side kick & how he reacted to guests & audience, it all just worked. As a brit i dont see as much american late night TV shows as some of you in america, but i watch the people i want to see be interviewed on there so i know how it all works & its good. It did feel so good. It was also one of the few times this year with the current trend where swapping between the colour & black & white was good. So good. The black & white was behind the scenes of the tv show & then it had a title card & jumped back into the tv show. Well done peoples very well done.
I loved the suspense of it all. We knew some shit was going to go down & it slowly hinted & added to that through the film, then it went down & we werent sure & then it really really went down & was insane. It was a little bit out there at points. I mean people did get what they deserved but it was a little bit weird still. There was one moment that made all of my section fo the cinema jump. I always sit low in my chair for horror films, but it was obvious i moved up in my chair in that moment. The girl in the row behind me full on screamed & jumped & went oooh fuck. We had a little giggle at that.
I mean i get that it had to go all supernatural, it had been teasing it from the start, but boy it went for it. & it went for it in sections & then bang went insane (im not counting that as a sky beam peoples) but oooh it went insane & started killing people off left right & centre.
What was with his cult? I was angry we didnt get a full reason about it. It was constantly mentioned throughout but it was never really explained who else belonged & why he got something’s & not others. & also at no point was that deemed supernatural as well. It was all just a little bit to weird for me & i do think maybe a few more minutes just to explain it a bit more & why it was such a big deal would have made that ending pay off so much more than it did.
There were so many companies involved in making this film all i could think was are cinema sins going to go 10 minutes worth of logos when they break it down.
That guy who was being rude to every single guest on the chat show was doing my head in so much. HE needed to do one or just shut up for more than 5 minutes. He was such a narcissist.
Theres obviously been controversial bits about this film in the press & its use of a couple of bits of ai, but i didnt really see it or look for it if im honest & i knew about this before i went to go & see this film too.
As terms of a horror films with the grimness & it being a halloween special it was all a little bit generic in that respect. The Tv show set was such a good way to portray it though. It was a clever idea which just needed a few more bits of explanation & plot to just put it over the edge & make it more than just another alright horror movie.
