Attempt two to try & watch this. After last sunday with it being cancelled due to technical issues, this was now my only time i could watch this film. Otherwise i have to get apple TV dont i. But no my cinema card is paid for. Lets get ready for the epic film. Ive got my snacks ready to eat at certain points. I can do this.
It was almost full. Im impressed. Obviously word has got out. This is weekend two as well. Obviously everyone else went ahhh i have time on a sunday afternoon to do this. I almost didnt get there for it. I got stuck in horrible traffic. However the film had over 35mins of adverts & trailers, so it didnt matter that i walked into the theatre a bit of the way through them.
The trailers i did see were for ferrari, wonka, napoleon, dream scenario & there was something else too. I cant remember the other one but 5 film trailers plus adverts & the big cineworld adverts year 35mins is a long time.
& then the film started… i hate to say this… but this is awards bate… & not much else… it was average.
I mean im not going to sit here & go it was rubbish. It was just after allt he hype & the extra week of waiting. It just felt like an anti climax if im honest. There were some bits were it was just drawn out for far too long. & i am the person who sits there & goes i want all the details. I didnt need to see her in that bed with her meds 8 times, 3 would have sufficed. It was in to too much detail at points where it was just a bit like okay are we going to get interesting again in a minute or not.
I am not denying that DiCaprio wasnt phenomenal. But that man always delivers, so does DeNiro & Lilly was amazing. In fact all the acting was good but it just felt exactly what was just about needed to be done. Does that make sense. It just felt like okay you did that bit now we will move on to the next. There were two scenes were DiCaprio owns it & its stuck with me. But it just became a bit samey.
It was far far too long. My bum was dead at 2hs 45mins & i still had another 45mins to go & cineworld have decent seats too. Its not like the dome. But because there was a lack of leaning forward & going ooooh i was numb by the time i stood up. & most of my lunch & snacks had gone & i still had 2hs to go. It was a slog.
With about 40mins to go two absolutely amazing actors turned up in the movie & had an act off & that got my attention again. Id forgot one of them was in the film & didnt know the other was so the made me go yes, give me more & then in a flash they were gone again. Hie brother though was the evil guy in the last of us who tried to kill Ellie. So it made it hard to trust him at all. He is the biggest monster of the year… thats good acting.
Some lush cinematography at points. The staging of it too was so good. So of the time. Also the way it dealt with some sensitive subjects was really well done. I mean it is racist at points, but so was that area at the time.
You know shits going to go down when Jesse Plemons turns up in any film.
What was with the owl?! i mean i get spirit animals but i was expecting a lot more from it being a spirit that that.
I liked how it ended i was not expecting that or for that person to get the last say at all. But it was actually kind of fitting. It was also nice to see it be reported & a good twist.
This will dominate award season. It will. Because of who made it, who stared in it & the subject matter. But it just didnt connect with me. I was expecting to be completely engrossed after seeing it on the big screen but no it just was a story which happened to be well acted & directed by a good director. Im glad ive seen it but i wont be going back for a rewatch.
