This is it, the end of the best Cinema Club year ever. Cinema Trip 117. & what a way to end it, with some Nolan.
Yes earlier in November America did a special IMAX rerelease of Interstellar & only London Cinemas did it here & i thought i had missed my opportunity to see it. But then i get that email on the 14th while waiting to watch Kraven, saying cineworld were showing it on the evenings of the 27th 28th & 29th of December, & for unlimited members no uplift price. It was a no brainer. Of course i was going to go see this. So off i went to Crawley to their IMAX, with hopefully enough tissues.
Going to point out that i did see Interstellar first time round & watched it on dvd before i started this website & blog. Its a film you do have to be in the mood for, for sure.
However turns out a lot of people were in the mood for it. My IMAX screening at 7:20 was half sold on the saturday night. Im impressed very impressed. A proper mix of ages too.
Trailers, Mickey 17, Cap America, Bridget Jones, Flight Risk & September 5 (im so intrigued by that one)
& then the film started… FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALSO SPOILERS!!!
We all collectively jumped high & someone (not me) audibly said Fuck when the air lock exploded. We all knew it was coming & i thought i was prepped but nah. Thats up there with moments in cinema i will always remember. Nolan knows how to get people feeling his films in IMAX. So much so that some of the driving & flying scenes in IMAX i actually felt i was going with them. It was insane & that score… fuck a duck.
One person did gasp when Matt Damon turned up. You genuinely forget it because you are so engrossed & you never see his face in anything else, but ahhhhhhhh.
I cried. I think everyone cried. Someone in the row behind me was full on crying too. Like im going you could properly hear them trying to be quiet & not achieving it. But there were moments with lots of sniffing.
The visual of the tesseract, the rings on the black hole, Saturn & everything else in space & back home, just incredible. I know Nolan loves to use real things, but to do those designs & to project them to make them feel real, its incredible. Its a visual feast.
Little Timothee. Bless him.
Why has Nolan not go back for Matthew again. Hes got people he loves to re-use but hes never been back for another Nolan project. He got the best out of him, by a country mile. Just stunning.
This film 10 years ago was ahead of its time. This should get the love Oppenheimer gets. I mean every Nolan film should get all the love in the world, but this. This ahhhhhhhh. IMAX made me adore it even more. Why was this snubbed by everyone for awards season. I dont get it.
Mesmerising, moving & beautiful. Ive kept this minimal cos i know we will soon have to do this as a DVD too, just got to be in the right mood.
So its all done! Cinema Club 2024 is closed… so… what won…hehe
