I didnt know this film existed until last week when i saw a trailer for it… & thats why i go to the cinema. Its films like this that dont get much buzz that you suddenly see a trailer for & then you go oooooh interesting. I mean i do go to the cinema to watch films obviously but you know you might see something that really grabs your attention. So lets do this, it seems pleasant enough.
There was about 8 other people in the cinema with me all groups of 2 all over the age of 50. The two ladies in front of me were having a right giggle when i arrived, reminded me of my mum & her bestie. It was also screen 7 at cineworld which means i have been to them all now whoop.
Trailers Bond (looking forward to Bond being on so i dont have to see the trailer for it anymore), Dear Even Hansen, Dune (which the women in front of me went at the end of it who would want to watch that & i just went ahemmmm loud enough that they could hear) & House of Gucci. So basically im going to go & see all of that. Cant wait to book Bond up this weekend once ive spoken to my parents.
& then the film started… Its very clever & meaningful but its a very very very hard watch.
This isnt for the fainthearted. It warns you with the BBFC logo that there is domestic abuse in this film. Its both physical & mental & its from the start & its throughout either actually happening or as flash backs. It is not very nice to watch, but there are so many people who go through this or worse, that you have to sit there & watch it & just go oh god.
An unknown cast (not big stars) always makes a film more believable i feel. Okay it may not be the best acting in the world, but its raw & they are giving it there all & that really really does come across. Especially the to kids in the film they are fantastic.
Its a fantastic example about how community’s & friends can help with the smallest thing & really do make a difference in the good & bad times when the world is with or against you. That brings some hope to this world.
& then you see the authorities & the trials & the paperwork & red tape people have to jump through where people are just apart of a system & that depressing. Especially when at the custody hearing, thats just bad.
So theres a point at the end of the film where i was sitting there going okay why didnt it end about 4 mins ago & then something happens & all 9 of us in the cinema gasped & someone actually went oh god no. It really was shocking. & then the fact that life just continued after a while like nothing had happened was just like oh okay.
I remember a few years ago when i could afford to live anywhere, i looked into how to get property without renting & after i had filled out the survey it said build a house or buy a containership to build it from, so building a house like that isnt beyond imagination.
It is a hard watch & makes you sit uncomfortably throughout, but thats the point. If you are up for it its worth track down & a watch. British film making at its finest.
