FANTASTIC FOURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you aint singing that you are not normal.
Yep time for the number 2 pick of the year. 10:20 am at imax on July 24th. just over 12hs since i left my last cinema with Pedro Pascal in. I am hyped & excited & bloody nervous. Ive never said or typed this out loud before except to one person, but im concerned. When hes been Reed int he trailers hes looked a little distant, i know hes going to do a good job & bits are out of context but still, maybe this is the one he faulters on. Anyhow the IMAX will make it enjoyable & so will looking at him being hot.
For a 10:20am showing it was 60% sold out. Wooohooo. Thats always good. I did buy some more f4 popcorn but have saved it to take back home & i got my free poster as well. Its so so cool.
Tailers, ODYSSEY IN IMAX IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO! OH MY FUCKING GOD! I mean the trailer had given me goosebumps before, but that damn. We also had Now you see me 2, Life of Chuck & Wicked for good & then we had the 2 other exclusives until sunday. TRON (which a friend of mine thought was ATJ & was heart broken when i said it was Leto) & Avatar 3. You know my opinion on those films. We also have the F4 IMAX retro fit intro before the movie.
& then the film started… i had no need to be nervous about our man being Reed.
I cried. Not full on cried but there were two moments that got me. A speech & the moment of oh god no at the end, it reminded me of something ive seen before… & i didnt like the ending. Yea i just felt the tears drip down me as i was like oh god. I mean it didnt keep it doom & gloom (pun not intended) but still.
What a way to open your film Marvel, Pedro being all domestic in a white vest top showing off those arms & that neck being so long & his face being all husband… god. It was hard not to make noises watching that. It was rather glorious, & so was our sassy octopus for the entire film. As Tim Rockford / Mr Ben girl when he was standing hands on hips pouting with a tie & a little pout with the curl being crazy. Yea i felt things.
Anyhow back to the review…
Joseph Quinn is going to get an oscar for playing George Harrison isnt he? Im starting the campaign now, book mark this. Cos damn! The man hasnt faulted yet, hes fucking phenomenal. Like im putting him up there with Timothee. I do love the fact that Johnny was still the little brother being a goof but that wasnt just him, he helped solved some stuff & was not just for the jokes.
This is a film based on a family & they really are a family & they all get a chance to shine. It also all works with all of them. Sue has a lot of focus on her due to being pregnant (its in the trailers its not a spoiler) & her maternal instincts. But everyone has a moment of ooooh wow. The film balances the 4 leads so well. They all shine as humans as well as heroes too. I also really hope that when Vanessa has her baby in real life, she has a nice simple birth & not traumatic as shes now had two in movies in recent years, both dramatic for different reasons.
What Galactus appeared on the screen & it grew for IMAX, that was stunning. I got goosebumps as well as he walked through new york, it was very freaky & he had real villain aura. Also when she was busy giving her speech when she arrived as the silver surfer, chills. I mean seeing Johnnys reflection in her face was stunning. Yea we all had a moment at that mate, it wasnt just you.
The practical visuals were amazing, building so much of new york from scratch looked amazing. & then we have the wormhole & space visuals, stunning. It showered that both can be used correctly in film. It doesnt all have to be from a green screen.
Hands up… who want a HERBIE?! Yep thought as much, but more specifically, who want a lullaby from him… yep. Seriously its been in my head since i left the cinema. Its infectious. I love it & i lvoe him & how cute he is. What is it with loving droids.
Our man isnt allowed to let his voice go high pitched or panicked or scared, cos it bloody hurts. Because our man has range & owns it. God hes a good actor. I’m glad they did put this in the 60s it made it easier for him to be Reed & not Pedro Pascal especially when the night before, he was so Pedro.
I also want to ask marvel why in this multiverse saga why havent we visited as many time lines or universe? It was nice to go into this without needing to do the home work of having watched so many MCU films, this hasnt happened in like donkeys years. It was refreshing not having to think i needed to watch a disney plus show to understand a few things.
The First Credit scene is important, the second less so but is still worth it & is very clever.
There was moments when we were laughing, were not talking a laugh fest, this is still a serious movie, but the MCU does get the jokes in & makes it work. Its clever & fun. I think putting it in the 60s also helped this too. Especially with the baby prep & if we were ever going to get its clobbering time.
I am glad (much like super man) this wasnt an origin story, We got a cool introduction into who they were & why this was the case but it wasnt full on like oooh why do we have these powers they have all (including ben) embraced them & their life in the world. That being said, it felt short & i think we needed maybe 10 to 15 minutes more just to mention a few other things, show off their powers a bit more. Maybe my answers will be given come doomsdays, although the fact thats not finished yet, i dont have hope.
To be cliché, this was fucking fantastic. It delivered for the MCU, for a villain, for a good dynamic among the cast, for drama, for giggles & for hotness of Pedro. What more could i ask for. This now makes the 4 of my top 5 that i have seen so far all buzzer contenders, over to you wicked to see if you can join the club. Go see this & go get you poster for it too & see it on the biggest screen possible.
