Advanced preview time. Yay. Getting back into the swing of these before i can properly start watching films like this again. Hehe. Yep the job move being back home means a lots more advanced preview will be watched which i am super happy about. & this time its for Dumb Money which looks like its going to absolutely boss it.
It was 60% full but obviously my row realised i was going to be sitting in it as it was just me. What did i do to upset people oh well. Elbow room.
I cant remember the trailers im sorry it was a little while ago now (im so sorry life has got in the way of typing it really has, which is why i always write little notes about films).
& then the film started… It was so so cleverly done & was such an oh god film, without not actually that much going down in the film.
Paul Dano bossed it (ive said that a lot recently) but he absolutely does. I’ve see the guys videos on youtube & he nailed it pretty well & we all remember watching him talk to congress, it made global news (yes it made it across the pond) so i was really impressed with his portrayal & how he did a good job & how he was so millennial about it all.
One of my favourite things the film did was show you peoples net worth when they purchased their shares at the start of the film & then what it was at the end of the film too. I really really liked that. It was a very clever way to do it. But it also showed how even the normal people didnt always have the happy ever after, from the extraordinary circumstances. I really felt for some of them.
Who i didnt feel for at all were the hedge fund wall street upperty wankers who were corrupt & were idiots & just wanted all that money & greed & tried to play him out of it all. & then they got fucked over, so then they fucked over the little guys & you realised the people that were there to help didnt care either. They were also complete & utter wankers. This isnt spoilers by the way, it happened. I watched it all unfold on the news it was insane.
Even though i knew the outcome & how it went down, i sat on the edge of my chair feeling stressed watching this. I learnt a lot about the stock exchange & people playing with the share market & how it effects people. It was information overload, but it was done really well & treated us with respect like he did with his original purchase & video.
Pete Davidson was actually good for once in a film. Yes hes playing what is himself but there are a few points where he actually has to properly act & you sit there & go oh wow, you can do this mate. Well done. maybe there is hope for you in movies.
It also didnt avoid the covid chat. It was very real & honest about how it fucked everyone over except the upperty rich. Seth Rogans character being the prime example. buying a new estate in florida so all his CEOs could be there & then wanting to knock down next door so he could have a private tennis court. What a wanker. I mean played brilliantly, but how dare he do that, when theres a uni student drowning in debt & a mum who cant look after her kids. It was all the stories about the real people & how this effected them that made you invest in it more & they all had different reasons for buying the shares & you really did want them to do well.
Also being so recent & watching it all on the news 2 years ago made you go oh yea i remember that & oh i saw that video. Often films like this come out like 10 years later not 2 years. So that was nice to go ahhh i get this & oh no dont do that they will fuck you over this way next. No no no.
I was expecting it to be crap & bit of my waste of time, but i left the cinema educated more on the stock market, feeling a little like fuck me. It just nailed it & was spot on & i suggest you all see this. You will laugh but you will also get kicked in the guts too. It just got it all so right.
