Some trips to the cinema excite, some trips amaze, some bore & some just really do make you just go ahhhhh & i am hoping for the latter today.
A Saturday night at the cinema isnt something ive done in years, especially on my own, but here i am at cineworld ready to watch Dream Horse. A film that i remember seeing a trailer for before the first lock down (remember that one banana bread memories) & going oh yea i know about this lot that should be sweet. So here i am waiting for the curtains to lift to see Dream Horse. Im hoping its as lovely as i want it to be.
I think im the youngest person here for the 8pm showing. Theres about 30 people here in total & the closest person to my age range (which isnt young anymore) is about 45. Mainly 50 to 60s id say here but theres quite a few of them so im impressed.
Trailers just the 2, in the heights which i feel like im going to be able to sing the opening number when the film comes out in a couple of weeks & Supernova, which this morning before i saw the trailer i booked the unlimited advance screening for in a few weeks time. & now ive seen that trailer i think im going to need a lot of tissues for that. & then Alicia doing her BT advert & then that lovely cineworld cinema is the thing advert.
& then the film started… ooooh it made you proud to be british it really did. It told the story so well & so lovingly & it oh it just warmed the soul, even of this miserable woman.
So lets get the negative out of the way. As a british person who loves her sport, i know about Dream Alliance, I know the story i know where it goes & where it ends up. Therefore the end wasnt a surprise to me at all. I can imagine non brits & people who dont know the story must sit there going nah this never happened no way & it must be really good to see it, but as someone who knows that took some of the enjoyment away. Also there were a few points were drama was added or was made even more out of it that should have been, which again if you dont know you will go ooooh no or ahhhh at but as someone who does i was like i know what happens dont go making us feel one thing for added tension which isnt necessary.
Right thats my moan. Its my fault for knowing about this film well before they even thought about making it.
Collette & Lewis were brilliant & the perfect two people to carry this film. They bounced off each other so well. It was a joy to watch & at no point were you worried about the film being anything other than being true & honest to itself. They brought it & made overs up there games.
DAVE COACHES!!!!!! Seriously he will always be Dave Coaches, but he was in the bloody film & was after the people related to the main characters was the most crucial person afterward. Bloody lush.
Its not often the Co-op gets a shout out in films but big up the Co-Op massive. Im not just saying this because i want freebies or that my bestie works there no no no. Big them up.
I love that Katherine Jenkins & Claire Baldwin actually turn up. It not a film about Wales or Horses without either of them.
The way they edited & filmed the horse races & put it all together was really good. It did feel like you were on the back of that horse just going around with him. You felt every jump with him & you could feel the speed it was going at.
It made me realise how much i miss live events too. See all of those people in one place mingling not social distancing & doing what ever they wanted, i miss that.
I didnt cry im proud of that there was moment of oh god but no tears here, maybe ive hardened up during lockdown ( i doubt it)
Not much more i can say really without spoiling it, i mean you cant spoil it it actually all happened. So im not sure why im being so cautious.
I left the cinema happy, with a smile on my face & very proud to be british & that we all do weird stuff from time to time & you know what sometimes it might just work. A proper feel good film even if you dont know the real story.
