Friday Film time
Let’s get very serious people & get very honest & truthful about this film.
Trailers we had blade runner kings man American assassin & tin star which is a tv show but they keep showing it in the trailers for films. Shame we don’t have sky Atlantic really.
I lowered the average age of the viewer in the cinema the next youngest I’d say was about 40ish maybe & the majority were in late 40s early 50s so I did feel a little out of place.
The film was just gripping like you couldn’t actually take your eyes off it even in the bits where it slowed down a bit. I was just sitting there desperately hoping that they made it out alive & that justice would be served.
John Boyega was very very very good but he just seemed to be an observer like we the viewer was he just ended up getting caught up in it.
The star of the film was Will Poulter who had such a difficult job to do & made you feel sick whenever you saw him on screen. Like I wanted him to get his just deserts & justice. He was pure evil. He won’t get an oscar nomination for supporting actor it’s too early in the year, but he will get a bafta nod defiantly. One of the best supporting performances iv seen all year.
The shire level of tense & suspense & not knowing was so pulsing & made it feel honest & true. I always think that with Katherine Bigalow films. I wasn’t watching a film I was watching a documentary or the news.
That being said I don’t think we needed the last 15 mins of the film. It ended & then because she really like to explain everything we had a few more bits which we didn’t really need at all. I know she likes to do this but it would have been a more powerful ending 10minutes earlier.
This film has also come out at an appropriate time politically with what’s currently happening in America. To think that 50 years on they still haven’t learnt from this is just horrendous.
To quote the song I’m going to say that you should put your hands up for Detroit… I love this film (despite its flaws). It’s well acted & puts you there. A definite contender for my film of the year. I sense a golden buzzer coming soon.
