3 of 4 we are up to for the week not bad eh dont you agree. Time for another film that should be a contender in the next few weeks but due to a few others being so epic or so loved by others & not me its been kind of cast aside.
Trailers we had the basis of sex, the aftermath, if beale street could talk, & something else which for the life of me i cant remember. It wasnt the rock or marvel maybe it was Dumbo… not sure.
I definitely felt like i brought the average age down of screen 8 again. Too many old people there & anyone who was under the age of 50 was there on a date for valentines day obviously. Im not sure this is the romantic film i would pick for a date, but then again i am single & go to films on my own.
& then the film started… & its very depressing & is very hard to watch, but its 10000% worth it.
Lucas Hedges give the performance of his life. I mean hes been pretty epic in everything else he has been in over the last 4/5 years but this has made him a oh wow person. The ove you have for him & the time & the way you just want to tell him he is fine & not to worry. I genuinely was moved by him. Mesmerising & terrific. Just captivating.
I did spend alot of time looking at that screen going is that Troye Sivan… & it was. Considering he doesnt act he was brilliant as well. In fact noone was bad or average, everyone was just fantastic & captivating. You know i wanted to punch both Russell Crowe & Joel Edgerton in the face at points i really did.
In this modern world & even though he was a pastor, i am not sure how he could send his child off to that place to be cured of being Gay. I seriously thing that it just wrong how could you do that to your son or daughter. No way is that allowable at all.
Some of the methods were a little bit full on & i was sitting there feeling uncomfortable watching them, but none more so than the Rape scene, which made me feel sick & wanted to scream at the cinema scene ( if i am ever at home watching this film i will do that). I understand it had to be done to make him feel vulnerable & then empowered & that its not right, but it was really really really hard to watch.
This really isnt going to be everyone cup of tea, but in terms of its importance, if you feel you are emotionally strong enough & want to feel empowered this is for you to watch.
Im just going to end this with a message for the director & co star of the film Joel Edgerton. You are a fabulous actor you really are, but your a better writer & director & i want you to do more of this please. You have an amazing gift to shatter my heart & slowly bring it back together every time.
