The struggle to find the original before this one came out was huge, nowhere had it at all then 10 days before… cheers netflix. So ive finally watched the first its time to see the legacy sequel, & see if time has made it better or worse.
Trailers, Speak no Evil ( McAvoy i will be happy when you are not the trailer before every film) Wild Robot (SWIM), Never let go, Lee & Venom. surprised there was less for mainstream if that makes sense.
Im sorry it was a while ago since i saw this cant remember how many people were in my 6pm screening with me.
& then the film started… well what he first one lacked this gave but what the first gave this lacked… does that make sense.
Who doesnt love an unhinged Michael Keaton? Put your hands up… Liars! We all love him being crazy & batshit. & Beetlejuice is the the best example of it. I am very glad we got more of him in this one then we did in the first one. I think he was in it for all of 20mins the first film, this one i think we got a full on 45mins worth of him popping up at points. It was worth it for that reason.
Now i am not a devote to the first as ive said as i only saw it a few days before i saw this one. But the first one had a very clear style & its stop motion action was up there with Ardman (almost time for Feathers) but obviously that was 35 years ago. So now CGI has taken over & its lost its charm but doing that a bit to perfect & spot on now. That made my heart sink a little. It was like it was missing a section of its soul. There were bits that were improved obviously, but some of it was like oooh no character to this now, just the same CGI we see all the time.
I loved his office & Bob, i laughed alot whenever we got there. They were all cool in the world of the dead.
What a way to write people out who are now problematic. Loved it. I also knew why they had been written out so some of that script, was so on point. Your acting career died twice mate, which is a shame because you were a millennial legend & now your just oh god. Also writing out Baldwin due to a loop hole, but no one then moving that model for the next 35 years even after they worked out they could move on from that point. Why keep the trauma there, unless they were adding to it which they werent.
There was a twist, a twist you could see coming from a long way away. It was like shouting hello look at me im the thing your going to be shocked at in 20mins time. So how they didnt see it in the film, i have no idea.
How can you get that size of black netting to cover your house? Seriously? Are there some Goths somewhere that are livid that havent been able to do stuff for the last 18 months as you have all their black.
The script was fun, but there were somethings that where just a little bit to convenient, that happened just so the plot could move along. I was sat there going hang on but other than 1 thing nothing else has happened at this point to save or solve that point, but were all just meant to accept that now. Urgh, at least have them like pass out of turn greyer or more colourful depending on them dying or living.
Dafoe is randomly in this film. Is it cos he was bored, because he was in it & yes he was fun & a breath of fresh air at some points but it was just a bit like, come on mate, we get the gig, just get to the point of be of some actual point. At least he was more useful that the villain, who if im honest i forgot for the majority of the film. So weak, it was like they wrote the film & then went oh we cant have people hate Beetlejuice, lets give them someone bland & generic to hate instead but only use them in 4 scenes before the final show down.
This was an easy cash in for the studios. Keaton, start of spooky season, nostalgia, up & coming young actresses (whos a bit type cast now bless Gemma) but this was always going to do well. Yes its lots a bit of its charm, but those who loved the original i imagine are seeing this multiple times.
