1 week ago today my knowledge of the Bad Boys films came down to “you aint seen bad boys 2?” in the film Hot Fuzz. Now here i am at the 6:10 showing 1 week later, & ive watched the first 3 films in the last week (yea sorry Pixar Marathon) so im now completely clued up to these, so lets see if this is just as fun & random as the first three.
Cinema was about half full. Im guessing people either saw it opening day or are waiting for the weekend, btu thats still good. Bottom of gen X & elder millennial filled the screening if im honest which is good.
Trailers, Wicked ahhhhhhhhhhhh The new one too I had a moment watching that cant wait, we also had deadpool, boardelands, a quiet place p1 & also the bikeriders. Good set for sure.
& then the film started… & i give these films their credit they are all bang average & you know what to expect. Every single one is a harmless popcorn blockbuster, if that makes sense.
I think this film might have the quote of the year… “I fucking hare politicians!” (note this was before we voted out government out). I mean hes got a point & it was so well delivered too. Loved it. Made the room laugh a lot.
The second one actor turned up & was going to be a weak link & then it was revealed what there job was & why they were there that they were going to be the bad guy that we were meant to be shocked about. & once again this actors character met an end where they looked & went oh for fuck sake before they got their cards dealt. Maybe thats me knowing no much about films & being a movie nerd, but it was glaringly obvious.
I know i watched them all in one go, but this took the best parts from the first 3 movies & put them together as a greatest hits combo at points. It was like hang on. Maybe thats why its sometimes not so good to bulk watch all the films before it, but at least i knew what was going down & who was who.
So many drones, so so many. Michael Bay would be proud (once again he got a cameo in this) but its was insane. They even call it out at one point as drone warfare. Although i did like the gopro shooting scene, that was very cleverly edited together & intense. Did feel a bit like a video game at points when they did that section.
Act 3 was properly full on which im glad about because up to that point it wasnt as bat shit as the first few. Although that helicopter bit. I heard the cinema sins guy voice in my head as that all went down saying “they survive this *ting*”. It does deliver on its full on set pieces it really does, & the previous films had too. Also a lot of the tangents & people we met all came together in act 3, including 2 stories we just didnt need.
The banter was alright, but after watching them all by the third argument between them i was bored. Again my fault for watching them all quickly together, not the films fault.
If im honest the actual muscle action villains were a bit crap. They were just a bit generic. Give me a bad guy to get invested in i want to care about their cause & whey they want the drugs or to frame people, please just give me that. Hollywood has mucked this up in a few sequels recently.
ITs not the best script & relies heavily on Lawrence & Smith to hit their a games each time. It did feel a little bit lazy but again that could be my own fault for binging it.
There is a house siege which happens at the end of act 2 which is very very good & interesting to watch.
Will i watch this film or these again? I mean if there nothing else on maybe they are harmless action fun movies which are over the top. But give me the likes of Wick, Bourne or Bauer every day of the week over these guys.
