Ladies & Gents Awards Season 2024/25 is here. Yes this is the start. I considered not going to this tonight as i was very tired & then i saw its not on next week anywhere so here i am ready to watch Anora, Canes winner & hotly tipped by many for glory this year.
Probably about 30 people in my screening for this. I actually think i was one of the youngest people in the screening. Mainly people late 40s early 50s which surprised me. I thought there would be a few more millennial & Gen Z but no.
Trailers, Queer (yes) Night Bitch(yes) We live in time (yes) Conclave (yes) Gladiator 2(ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh)
& then the film started… Well if this misses out on awards season i will be very very angry.
There is an argument scene in this film as act 2 starts. I am not joking here. IT is one of the best acted arguments i have ever seen in my life & this film needs to be up for best screen play just for this one moment. I think this over all scene lasts a good 20 minutes. It shows the shift in dynamics & what the film really is all about & its just so so good & you expect it to go one way & not another & it just ends up being so organic. If you watch this film for one scene, it should be this one. Its just fucking incredible.
I knew this film was going to be a winner, when it started off with the best take that song opening the film. I mean a random choice but i was sold.
Mickey was incredible. Ive not seen her in anything before (or not to my knowledge i have) but shes up there this year for sure. So many different emotions or lack of them at some points. A really complex but epic character. I love her so much. She needs nominations for sure.
This film should have ended on one of 2 moments before it did. At the very leas 10mins before we did. We didnt need that last moment in the film. I think it cheapened it & showed something that i dont think those characters would have done not matter what happened. It just kept going & i was like no end youve had 2 opportunities to which were good but now your dropping stars from me.
The couple in their early 50s in front of me im guessing didnt know the nature of this film to start with, because there was a lot of sex & naked or almost naked people for the majority of act 1. They gasped at one point & i tried not to laugh as they both shook their heads. Im not sure you randomly would pick this film to see for your meerkat wednesday so they should have known this was about a stripper.
Im now back on my uperty & entitled people rant. Because there were some people in this film who were just so up themselves it was crazy. It did make them very easy to hate at points. & yes that house was bat shit crazy but they didnt deserve it. Yes vegas was fun, but do you really all just expect to be able to do that in vegas. Urgh it was about excess for so many people & the lifestyle & they didnt care who they ruined the lives of along the way.
Random question. I have met a few Russians… do all their younger men look like that? Because the 3 ive met did to. Its a look & a style for sure.
Theres a christening which is so funny. I love it. I laugh a lot. That guy had a lot to deal with but i love that this was all more important than all of that.
This is one hell of a way to kick off award season for sure. Its going to be up there come February & March for sure. This is well worth a watch & is not the film you are expecting at all. If it had just known when to end it would be one of the films of the year for sure.
