This was almost very nearly the film that got away. It really was thank god for £3 Wednesdays at the Connaught.  This film has only ever been on really late at night at the odeon or at like lunch time which doesn’t help really. So an 8:40 showing in worthing was perfect.
That being said my viewing was ruined as there was drilling & banging throughout a film where they ask you not to eat drink or lose the loo during as it’s all about sound. I have complained to the cinema, that’s not really acceptable if you ask me.
The other problem with the studio theatre is that you can’t see everyone who’s in there as if your on the balcony you can’t say below. There was 8 people up in the top with me I’d prob say about the same again below maybe… not sure. It was funny when someone moved the curtain to use the loo in the cinema that we all went shhh at them. A rare point where there wasn’t any drilling.
Trailers we had hereditary, yea that’s a horror to far sorry, Jurassic World which I’m still not sold on & mama Mia here I go again my my how could I have missed ya. I will be seeing that the first One may have bad singing by campuses but this has got will from w1a in it I’m sold.
& then the film started… & if I’m honest as much as the drilling & banging was very distracting… it didn’t spoil the film. Oh man what a film. How good would it have been if there wasn’t all the extra noise, because it was pretty darn special.
It was stunning it was chilling, it came from a really nice place even though it was horror it was made with love. It made me cry it had me hiding behind my coat in my chair & not wanting to look but desperately wanting to look at the same time. Its from the I am Legend horror world, which is fine by me.
As much as Emily Blunt is fabulous & really strong in her role, John Krasinski steels the show entirely. I mean yes he did write produce direct it, but his acting as a father torn apart by grief is just brilliant. He was the one who made me cry. Hats off John you were stunning. The kids in it to were really good, really really good.
Obviously this film is all about sound, but the sound mixing & score, need oscar recognition next year. Im talking minimum a nomination, but it deserves a win & for it to be taught to all future sound & noise mixers & core creators. It just is perfect & thats without my additional noises going on in ym cinema. Imagine how good it would have been with out the drilling.
It didnt bother me that i had to read subtitles for the sign language, i know people complain about that, but if your complaining about that this films not for you.
The nail… when you get to the nail, oh man be ready to feel really faint. Its horrible pure horrible. Thats the worst part of the film. It really is. Its worst than the monsters, which were just to generic their had been some thought going into them. They were evil & ugly, but still different to to the standard.
I dont like horror you know that & i know that, but this is perfect, the perfect horror. Why did i wait so long to see it. I was ever so close to hitting that golden buzzer. when i left the cinema it was that good, im reserving the right to though. Thank you John.
Oh & the connaught, i wrote them & told them about the drilling & they refunded my ticket happy days.
