It been a while. I had to miss a couple due to other things going on & i decided not to do the scary one this time as well so here we are ready for Secret Cinema. Ive also avoided Odeons Clues this time. Each time they pop up im like scroll past.
It was full. Im impressed. The people next to me were a couple in their 50s. We all had to show either out id or unlimited card when we got there so clearly this is actually for once an 18. When the title screen showed 6 people left & i saw 2 people leave during the film.
Trailers, Alien (interesting a few people were like damn it) also Trap, Wicked & i the James McAvoy film. Oooh & Venom too. So that didnt really give any clues.
& then the long wait before the title card happened & the film was… Kneecap! A film i probably wouldnt have seen if it wasnt for secret screening.
It was nice to not watch a film about Northern Ireland which wasnt about the troubles. I mean yes it kind of still was but it did get that out the way to start with. It wasnt directly about the violent period but the fall out on the modern day northern Ireland instead.
So did this make drugs good or bad? Lets be honest drugs are bad for sure & for most of the film people are trying to prove that. But it also with their music helped get their message across. & some of the tripping scenes were quite funny. Especially the one on the bus. I laughed hard at that.
I didnt know until the end credits that they played themselves. Like what the hell. I mean yea i get it, especially if you are going to speak the language, but it just was like hang on. I mean i guess then they tried to do things correctly. But then that happens & then Michael Fassbender fricken turns up. What the heck. It was a weird turn. I mean Michael is always good, but it took away some of the reality from the rest of it.
It was a very interesting way of trying to get your message across. Whats more useful. being peaceful & legislating or being loud & out there & being obnoxious. Does one damage the other? Also very interesting at the end that it talked about how many languages in the world are at risk of going extinct. I did love that most of it was in Irish & we had subtitles for even the english spoken parts.
I did laugh at a few bit. There were a couple of jokes which were so good.
They really were dedicated to the cause even though it got obnoxious & annoying at times, it was just like what the heck is this bit about. It left me frustrated at time, like no this wouldnt happen, bollocks to that. There was 1 good twist though which i didnt see coming, the one at the end i did see coming a long way off.
Would i have seen this if it hadnt been secret cinema, probably not. So im glad i have & been educated in this world. It was a good story but it just needed to decide if it wanted to be a biopic or an important voice. It needed to pick the main theme & sprinkle the rest of it through it.
