Trying to think when i last went to my local cinema to see something, i think it was love lies bleeding, but here i am today for the 6pm showing of Thelma, which ive seen the trailer for one & a few people on Letterboxd talk about it & now here i am paying full price to see it. & while im here at the cinema ive got tickets to 2 more films here in the next week. This is what happens when everyone else just has Deadpool & theres no verity.
I was in the main theatre too, which is very odd & i lowered the average age to im not joking 50. There was maybe one person in there in their 50s but everyone else was over 60 which was a little bit like oooh really. Someone did look at me oddly like why is someone mid 30s here.
Trailers, a long one telling us exactly whats coming soon, blink twice & i saw the tv glow (i have that booked for friday here im so excited).
& then the film started… I laughed quite a lot.
Any film that references or shows Mission Impossible Fallout automatically gets an extra star. Those are just the rules (i was going to say i dont make them but i do). So i love that she saw that film & then was inspired by Tom Cruise to get her revenge i loved that. It was very very cool.
Anything to do with the scooter was very cool & fun & chaotic. I loved it. Its what we all want to do. I once worked for a company who sold scooters & wheelchairs & testing them was a lot of fun. So i recon they all had an epic time doing that.
The kids parents i think were too much of a parody of what real world parents would be. They were to flimsy & then not helpful enough &then just being to wingy. I dont think any of my friends parents would react quite like they did. Like i get them helping to start with but why after she goes missing to they go back to the old peoples home & gone go back home or to hers? Very odd for sure. & its not like the police arrive straight away to help with.
The grandson was good, i liked him & how he felt the pressure of all the world. I loved that. & then no one ever actually even listened to him when he admitted he felt lost himself. It was an important moment in the film & for the character development & then it was just ignored a bit.
Who has $10k in their house just lying about? I mean i get it was very convincing to get her to give them the money but seriously who has that amount of money just easy to get hold of?
It is scary especially if your an older person as to how easy it is to fall for those scams. They are very clever. I hope i stay worldly wise & never end up for falling for something like that. Im sure my grandma wouldnt & i know my parents wouldnt because they would always receive something from me or my sister going yall gotta problem.
I laughed when she first talked to the random person she thought she knew & then when it became a reoccurring joke i was like oh my god that is so true. It really really is what they do. Its very random & then for them to both mention people neither of them know at all. Its spot on.
Thelma did need to accept more help in her life. She really did. Bit like my own Grandma. I know they went through a lot & are very proud of who they are, but they do sometimes need to remember they are now in their 90s & to just slow down a bit.
The final show down, was wholesome but far too random. It was just a little bit too much at that point. We didnt need to to be quite like that. Although shooting a computer screen to stop it working was fun.
Seeing all the different old people & their needs & what was wrong with them was sad to see but it is the real world. Aging comes with all sorts of difficulties & side effects. ITs not fun & can be painful as you lost the person you once were.
It was a very simple story that was done so well until right at the end, but i laughed a lot & im now kind of tempted to put my Grandma on one of those little scooters for sure.
