Definite Spoilers if you’ve not watched this.
I love a good heist film, I really do. But not as much as a film where you really need to concentrate to work it out. So now you see me is basically my perfect film.
I made my friend Kirsty go to the cinema to see it with me. (at this point I didn’t like going to the cinema on my own) all she knew about it was that it was a film about magicians & that was about it. When it was over she said she enjoyed it but would need to watch it again as she thought she missed out on a couple of things.
My mum had also wanted to see this, & I thought she had when I brought the DVD downstairs a couple of weeks ago to watch, when she declared she hadn’t. So while ironing she watched it. She didn’t have any questions for once & stood there watching it & then when it finished went wow that was pretty good. I know high praise indeed.
I love the fact that this film gives you the opportunity to work out how the magic tricks are done before they reveal them (especially the big ones). That’s the beauty of it. When we sit here & watch Dynamo it usually takes us 2 hours to watch the show as were too busy pausing rewinding & arguing about it. Don’t get us started on the bucket of fish.
It is weird that it’s Morgan Freeman doing the reveal tho. Yes his voice is good for narration & explaining, but I don’t really see him as a character until we near the end of the movie, when things kick off. Up until that point he’s just there to move the story along.
Right twist part so stop reading now if you don’t want to know as I think I need to address the ending while I’m discussing a certain actor.
Mark Ruffalo nails Dylan Rhoads. What a performance absolutely fantastic. He does take on a persona of a persona it’s just brilliant. The whole film you kinda want him to catch them so that he can see what’s going on, which he does work out on his own… But you also want the horseman to escape so they can complete their tasks which have been set.
To quote Woody Harrelson… i did not see that coming, when it revealed at the end of the film that Dylan was the 5th Horseman. So clever so brilliant, it really did leave me speechless. I think i got it about 10secs before it was revealed probably due to his monologue that he had worked out why they had done it, leaving Morgan Freeman baffled. He really does make you think throughout that he is completely against them. Especially with the FBI, it make sure that they really are exactly where they are supposed to be.
How did the French girl not work it out, i mean seriously. Shes spent most of the film explaining stuff to him that he already knew and took no interest in (for that reason) and ended up having an emotional attachment to him, she should have seen through his lies especially as she is the first to bring up the 5th horseman.
The best part of the whole film its the fight & car chase around NY & Queens. It really shows off Dave Franco too, showing he is no longer in the shadow of his brother. I love the fact that he instead of throwing knives and sharp objects at him uses his deck of cards, its so cool. My mum did sit there tho & go of course hes not dead, which kinda threw me as i thought he was when i first saw the film.
Michael Caine had it coming, he was clearly only in it for the money, like all things in this film. I do love the fact they get access to his account to give all of his money away to whose who need it. Robin Hood esk. Which begs the question how could he then still afford to have them followed and exposed if he lost everything.
The American Football hypnoses always makes me laugh, every time i see it. Its just perfect, having said that so is bullshit.
I really want to know how number two is going to work, everything was answered at the end of number one. There’s also no Isla fisher anymore as she was having her baby. Its going to be interesting.
A brilliant film, strong cast where everyone in it gets what they deserve. Perfect. Something that i will watch for many years to come. Heres, hoping they dont fuck up the sequel.
