Time for something i have never done before. Go & see a concert with a live orchestra. Yep forget family bonding this easter weekend, its time to go to the Brighton centre to see the London concert orchestra play the score for Paddington. Im buzzing.
No adverts obviously, however it did say that the doors were 2pm for a 2:30 start so i got there at about 2:10 after the bus had a nightmare getting into central Brighton i wasnt going to pay for bank holiday parking in the city, no way & the traffic was still a mess. Anyhow so when i got there i was like theres lots of people standing about, no turns out they had moved the start time back to 3pm. Urgh oh well.
I didnt feel as awkward as i thought i would going to see this as a one. I was a little bit concerned i would get people upset i was sat in front of a 5 year old kid or be like oh why is she here on her own, but no. It was okay. Obviously it was mainly families with their kids to see this but there was one group of 3 millennials who walked in without kids so that made me feel a bit better about being on my own without a family with me.
Before the show & during the interval there was a Paddington Quiz you could do on your phone, which i looked at but thought it would be bad if i broke some childs heart if i won & they didnt. But that was pretty cool.
Then out walked the orchestra which were always so well received & they were so good playing the score. I mean i had no idea that when Paddington walks theres a little chime each time. The whole thing was magical & i had goosebumps for sure listening to it. I stopped a few times from watching the film to watch them play & oh my they were going for it. It was a pleasure to watch it.
I do often sit here & say you go to the cinema to see that film for the sound not the visuals & this proved my point a lot. Even the funny bits & the calypso parts were just made even more special because it was filling your ears live & it felt euphoric.
As always Paddington was an incredible film. Here is my original review of it. I know it doesnt get the love of Paddington 2 (which yes i did watch when i got home with a hot cross bun & a cuppa tea) but without this film we dont get the second film. Its just so magical & is quintessential British & lovely & really is what is right with all the world. Also some people full on laughed at points & there was someone who went no as those vacuums died & he almost fell back down the chimney.
Oh & i forgot something else cool. Who was on the big screen being an MC… Only Ali Plumb. I was like oh of course its him, it couldnt have been anyone else. Im guessing when it gets to the Royal Albert Hall he will be there in person. But he owned it as always.
So if you are ever thinking of going to see a live concert orchestra play a film score while you watch a film, please dont. They arent too expensive & it makes you have so many more emotions watching it.
Paddington is Incredible…
