Happy Birthday to you dear littleun… my little sister is 30 today ahhhhhhhhhh how is that the case.
I mean this actually has no effect on why ive chosen to watch this. She actually out with her husband tonight & we are partying & celebrating for the rest of the weekend. So im off to go & see The BeeKeeper straight after work. A very nice Friday night treat for me.
ITs pretty packed in here for opening night so i am very glad about that. Main ages are from mid teens to 40 year olds. People older than early 40s are here with their kids as a family, but havent come to see it on their own.
Trailers, Mean Girls, Madam Webb, Argylle & Ghost busters. Im still not sure if i want to sit through all of that for another mid ghostbusters film. The last one just didnt deliver at all.
& then the film started… So last year i went to see Equalizer 3… this is the film E3 should have been it was batshit insane but it just worked.
My sister has a interesting way of watching tv (dodgy) & so she watched the Beekeeper at home last week to you & me know & ive added this in here because i think it applies. She said its complete & utter crap but boy does this film deliver… & then i explained to here thats exactly why i gave it 4.5 out of 5 because you cant judge that against films not in its genre &she complete got me & i think thats the perfect way to explain how this film is so good at being bad but it just works & delivers.
There was a twist coming that i didnt expect at the end of act 2 & i was like damn, i was not expecting that person whod only been mentioned in passing to be so important & key & it just was like oh so when this all kicks off in act 3 its going to be pure chaos. I mean not like it hadnt been already but damn it went for it & was a full on assault in act 3. I loved it.
The best death is at the start of act 2. After someone has something happen to them a few scenes earlier, they are then plummeted to their death in iconic, bud but hilarious way & its very much deserving & you know full well at this point that the film is going to be completely unhinged & it doesnt slow down, but thats the moment. That made me sit up & watch it & go oh my. I laughed hard which i havent done in a cinema for a little while.
Jason bossed it. I know i moaned about him in the meg 2, but this & his attitude & the fact he gives no shits at all is crazy. He kills to protect the hive & damn its brilliant. I did go nooooooooo when someone shot something important to him, i mean it wasnt like killing Daisy dog but it was still a you fucking what mate you serious moment. You dont do that to him. Also i did learn a lot about bee keeping in act 1 which i was impressed with.
Some of the stunts & explosions were so over the top & cringe but so would have been what hed do. The first building giving people a little warning & then those guys in the lift… crazy. But they so worked. Also thats why i dont like going in enclosed lifts.
Josh & Jeremy were good & their characters were such good & clever version of their stereotypes & what their jobs were. & also randomly having Minnie Driver turn up sprout some exposition & then jsut not be in again was a oh wow moment. (sorry might have spoiler that for some of you but here name was on lots of the trailers).
That poor woman at the start. I felt for her. I mean its easy to fall for those type of cons but it really was not a ncie thing to do & it is so bad people fall for that & just lose everything. Its just like no. I was sitting there going dont hit accept knowing full well she was going to because if she didnt we dont get he rest of the movie.
Some of the FBI talking & trying to solve stuff was a little bit forgettable & a bit of a side story. I mean i get that its to give us a break but until the deputy director appeared who i spent ages looking at going i bloody know you & then being like ahh its one of the evil eastenders guys. Cheers for the help with that letterboxd. The two different swat teams on either side & their tactics were easily disposable, so it was really creative when shit with them went down so much.
Usually i sit there with these kinda films & go oh okay then, but if they want to make more Beekeeper movies, im down for that. Its the perfect film reset that you need in awards season for your watching. It did exactly what it said & it kicked arse & blew shit up. Whats not to like about that. ITs crap in the best way possible.
