I have some days off woohoo, so lets start it off with a cinema trip shall we. This has been advertised to the end of the world, so im expecting this to be very lacklustre & a bit of a filler gap for the cinema this summer. I mean after the Meg & Turtles, im not holding up much hope for it im afraid to say. But you know, im hoping im proved wrong.

Opening day 5:20 showing screen 1 a third full. I was expecting a few more, but im guessing its not for little kids & it is now summer holidays so people go to the movies whenever they want. Id say it was from the ages of about 15 (mid 20s being the main audience) upto about 60 year olds, which lets be honest they all played the game when it first came out when they were around my age (oh crap im now old).

Trailers, Haunted mansion (maybe) Strays (yes) The Marvels (yesssssssss) Blue Beatle(maybe) yea i actually paid attention to the trailers for the first time in a long time.

& then the film started…well this is the surprise film of the year for sure… wow

now this film is a real life story (with added bits to it obviously to create more drama, its a film thats what they do) but when it got to the end of Act 3 & it gets to the hero moment (its a sports film come on peoples you know thats going to happen) i had a quick look around the cinema. People were leaning forward & gripping their chairs & when the moment happened someone out loud went Yessssss & some big breaths were taken. When a film makes you react like that, its good, its done its job. Okay maybe these people dont know the real story but damn. IT made them feel it. Thats what a film should do.

Now i love formula one & a bit of motor sport & racing, & i am a red bull girl (before we became it) & i completely understand why Geri Halliwell-Horner is in this film. It makes sense. But she is the films weakness. I thought she was going to be a sponsor or somehow press or pr or something but no she was his mum. I mean i get it but no, she should have been a bit more involved in the actual race part. She is the worst actress in this. Give her something she knows a bit more in this film if you want her in it. For those not in the know this would have also been seen as random casting.

The film goes for it with the graphics & making you suddenly remember that you are watching a video game film. Its very clever & cool. Especially with the graphics that track position & the leader boards & timers, its so so clever & good. It balances all the genres it needs to cover so well. Being a game, being a sports movie, being a let me grow on my own movie.

Champagne is for the podium…

David Harbour is so good, so so good. I mean films really are nailing the mentors at the moment quite well. Good on them. He was better than Bloom for sure. Blooms character wasnt likeable & he didnt deliver him well at all. He just felt awkward.

I loved the tough love & life lessons throughout. So many with all these film is the tough love rewarded & then the film end but no. It kept knocking people back. Im glad it did. I was glad it was as cut throat as it was.

So the guy the film is about was actually the stunt driver for the film ahhhhhhh. I loved that. All the driving was so so good.

As with so many underdog stories, there was upperty people, who looked down on others. Especially in the world of motorsport. If you know me you know i dont like some people who buy their way into the sport. Its bloody irritating. But im glad it showed this & how its not always talent that gets you where you are.

Do you want to know what the film missed… the dutch national anthem… if you know you know. The redbull ring & Silverstone did look lush though.

This is probably at the moment sharing the surprise film of the year award for me. I was expecting it to be much more corny & cheesy than it was but it had the guts to do something’s other versions of this might have failed at. I really enjoyed it. If people ask me oh should i watch Gran Turismo, i will say absofuckinglutley.
