Spoilers
i went to the cinema on friday so it became classic saturday film night this week & another one to tick of the films to watch before you die list… Reservoir Dogs. Ive just never got round to it & i think when my parents originally saw it years & years ago it freaked my mum out so much that she now actively waits for about 6 people to watch a Quentin film before watching it. So im really looking forward to this.
Okay so Quentin has made better films after this, but you san see exactly where this all comes from ooooooh my oh my. Its so him & was so out there & i can see why this was so ground-breaking when it came out.
I love the ear chop off & you know what its actually worse because you dont see it happen on screen. We pan away from it & just hear the music & the scream. Its worse than seeing it happen. So it makes the reveal later on even more grim when everyone comes back & you see it all just being ewwwwwwwwwwwwww.
I love the opening meeting at the diner that is good. & also so is the tip conversation. I have never understood the American typing system ever or why they dont add tax on until you have to pay. So when he has that chat i get it. We do tip here dont worry & so do i, but not at the 20% americans expect. Pay your staff properly, if you do that they wont rely on tips. Idiots.
The argument as to who is each colour is really good & then that its not the end of the world for some but for others it is. & that its so no one know who anyone is other than the ring leader & his son.
Why do we only get 2 flash back to explain why people are who they are, that felt very weird to just do 2. I mean we see the others in those parts, but its still odd that its only 2 of them this happens too.
Tim Roth got a career off the back of this film & rightly so. He was good just dying in the car & safe house. But then when its revealed hes the undercover cop & almost saves the other cop, its brilliant. He needs a lot more kudos for that performance. I dont hear enough people when they talk about this film talk about his performance. That in itself is criminal.
We never actually see the inside of the heist, which as a heist film lover, did piss me off a little i was like nah i want more please. We see it all go wrong & before & the fall out but nah not the actual heist. I was so looking forward to that.
Steve Buscemi always plays someone a bit dodgy doesnt he, & yet you always somehow like him. Hes like a later 80s early 90s Ryan Reynolds. You know what your going to get with each performance & he nails it every time. Well he has in all the recent things ive seen him in anyhow, so im sticking to that. I love that he ends up just running off with the diamonds like nah fuck this after all of that. Maybe thats how he gets caught in con air along with all the other horrible stuff hes done….
I love how for the majority of the film it is all set in the safe house, that is very good. I know we do go else where but id say a good hour of the film is there, other than the flashbacks & the opening its all there. Thats a good way to make a film.
The music is amazing, both the score & the songs they pick to be played too.
So i was shocked that we tied it up so quickly after the second flash back is over. I didnt realise this was only a 95min film. I thought we were only just starting act 3 & then bang Orange is dying & white collapses when the police turn up. I mean i was expecting maybe a white or a pink flash back but no we round it off & end it. That really did make me go really now, thats over. I want more.
No feet shoot Quentin… whats going on…
Im glad ive seen this & i will probably watch this again. I can see how its not some peoples cuppa tea, but hes made much more graphic stuff than this. But you gotta start somewhere & this is an amazing introduction as to what you get from him. Well worth a watch peoples.
It is weird this being on disney plus tho…
