I didnt have much of an intention to go & see this. Im not 18 anymore, however 20% of the money made from the film is going to comic relief, therefore i am off to go & see The Nan Movie.

There was two other groups of two in my screening thats it. I mean a 5:30 showing fair enough. Everyone was older than me too. I also didnt realise until the film started that i had booked the subtitles screening oh well.

Trailers Downton (no) The lost city (yes) unbearable weight (yes) & Elvis which i hadnt yet seen on the big screen (yes).

& then the film started… well for nostalgia value & remembering the TV it was okay, but other than that it was very mehhhh

Lets face the facts, its 10 years to late. It really isnt striking while the iron is hot is it. You know by saying your going to make the Peaky Blinders film while season 6 is on tv is good. Downton (okay not my cuppa tea) but making films with that people will see it. But this should have been made in 2012 not 2022. Only the loyal or those like me who want some of the profits to go to comic relief will go & see it. Anyone younger that 16 wont be bothered by seeing this.

It would have worked better actually as 3 30min tv episodes if im honest. There 3 themes going through it. So why didnt they jut put it on TV on comic relief week on bbc 2 at 10pm on the wednesday, thursday & then the the comic relief cap on the friday for the finale. okay yes you wont get the box office taking, but it still would have been more fitting for Nan to end up there for her farewell.

There were some bits that were classic Nan, & she just about gets away with it as shes Nan & she would have those backwards views which arent PC. We all know someone in their 80s where this is the case dont we & because they are that age you forgive them. But some of it was “banta” & there were some classic Nan lines, however some of it even tho i expected it i was a bit like oh wow can you say that. Felt a little dated & wrong.

The random youtube videos made sense for the story, but they werent that good. I mean i get that with the Jamie Character (Matthew Horne’s eye rolling does save the film & his love for his Nan no matter how crazy she is), but it was a bit like they had run out of budget & money for the film & went ahh he can do youtube stuff cant he, thats in.

I liked the flashback story as to why Nan is like how she is that was very sweet & lovely & shows a lovely side to her & her family, which culminates in the end of the film. But it was nice & wasnt irritating, it was a lovely story. see they can get that right.

I would just like to say that not all Vegans are like this. I know a lot of vegans, & none of them have done that at all. This is why they get a bad rep, it really is. Protect the vegans (& the chickens).

That Van & that statue & those aussies & that chase, madness, weird but all had moments of brilliance & moments of madness.

There were some life lessons learned on the journey too.

It not going to win any awards & im pretty sure i will actually forget later in the year that i watched this film. It had some moments but not enough & not enough nostalgia in the right way to make me go yeah. Very meh indeed. At least ive heled out comic relief.
