Well?
Epic roman empire film with the most epic speech from Russell Crowe, which won him the Oscar. Most deserved i should say it is one hell of a performance to put on.
I had seen this film before, but not in the one sitting, which i decided to do as my family were away at the time. I watched this then caught up with the Olympics, not sure which was most stressful.
The costumes, the staging the villainy the pain & the blood. Oh it is a good film. Probably a little bit too long, but still really really epic.
The opening battle with the strategy & the fire & the war is bloody but once you watch this you know what you are going to be watching for the next two hours. It is really good any film to do with war battles or violence would be proud to have this part.
Even before you know hes evil, you know hes going to be evil. Like seriously, its like when Loki turns up bad stuff is going to happen & shits going down. But he sent goons to kill him, surely he would have worked out that he escaped when none of his men came back.
Even though you dont really see it his families murder, its still fucking grim, my stomach is churning thinking about it.
I like the fact that some of the fellow gladiators are scared & petrified. It makes you realise that this isnt just a film, that this did happen in real life, ish, well to some extent.
I know he didnt want to ruin that kids life, but if he really wanted revenge, he would have killed the emperor anyhow, he wouldnt have cared, Forget it. Also that kid is going to end up being fucked up due to incest of brother & sister that he may as well go to game of thrones level.
i know there was a planned coo, but why not kill this group sooner. You know you enemy is with them, dont just cheat in the arena or wait for them to escape & try to kill you. Kill them the first opportunity you get.
The last battle despite it not being the worst, is the one where you know both are going to die. doesnt matter, even before the emperor cheated, you knew this was it.
It is so sweet though that he sees his family as he passes, that that is what you see when you die, your friends and family waiting for you.
It is an epic film, its not really my sort of topic for a film, but i always enjoy watching it when it appears on tv, even if its just for that speech.
I will ask you again, are you not entertained?
