Spoilers
So i was adding all the films i own on dvd onto one letterboxd list which i enjoyed doing & at the end sorted it by popularity. Turns out noone on Letterboxd has sever seen the Parole Officer (i say no one 2,200 people in total) . What a crying shame, so my aim is to get this film a much needed boost so more people can discover it. (in turn if anyone has a copy of The Time Machine starring Guy Pearce i would really appreciate it havent seen that film in years). So yeah im going to watch Coogan boss it.
The whole idea of robbing a bank but not robbing a bank, but robbing a bank is brilliant & such a british concept & idea for a film. I mean if anyone going to do that, its us, its defiantly us. So its brilliant, & its so mad everything they have to do to get the tape they need to prove Simons is innocent.
Coogan is bloody brilliant, i think as a teenager this was the first time me or my sister had seen him in anything other than partridge & maybe that why we think so fondly of this film.
There are some bits which are in it just for crude jokes, & early lad culture, the getting out the shower, the looking under the desk, the virus software & the whole part of the art exhibition when the fertility art penis comes off in his hand. I mean its funny if your a teenager but as an adult its really cringe. I mean Simon Pegg gets a cameo at that point but other than that seeing it as an adult.
I love how its basically from the start that everything is put in place from the car being stolen to the end. You think its going to go off in tangents & be little bits but it all just adds up together for one big story.
What you are doing is Illegal…
So is robbing a bank…
how did you know about that?
Its written on your notice board.
Hi pin number being the battle of hastings is brilliant. I mean surely that is a lot of peoples pin number in the uk as its easy to remember (its not mine by the way). But that whole faked mugging to frame him for murder eventually is funny. But theres no way he would have actually survived the fall from the building into the cannel bellow.
Picking up the crew is so much fun about why they wont go into crime again & help him rob a bank, but it really doesnt take much for him to convince them especially after the earlier bit at his hearing where they all say hes a bit of a twat. It is the perfect mix of personalities for a heist crew. & then Victor hahahahaah. Love Victor. What a waste…. If youve seen the film you will laugh at that.
He genuinely didnt know what the flask was for.
Those poor brownies on the rollercoaster, not good not nice, no matter what it was they threw at them & covered them with ewwwwwwww.
Death actually being a uni student is brilliant. & then again that leads them to taking over the bike rally for it to be at the bank.
They really are the crapest police up north in the early 00s i mean how many times does kirsty get away, how crap are they that it took forever for them to open the fridge after the search warrant. I mean the fact kirsty takes it trys to chuck it & then replaces it with a chicken, thats not very competent.
ITS GET KIRSTY IN!!!!! Brilliant. Love that Van.
Never mess with an office worker. When i watched the scene where he takes out the heaveys while in the office, i was always like nah would never be able to do that. Now as an office worker, there is plenty more stuff that he didnt used which would have worked better okay he got the job done but still. Never mess with an office worker.
Getting that pig into the bank is wonderful. The talk to the manager, the flirt & then them missing out the code & then getting it second time round as he wrote it down, epic. Its also the fact they send a piggy bank into a bank vault. I mean after all those poor little kids at the hospital are “challenged”
Hes scared of heights, brilliant. & how did he end up ontop of that light & fall asleep, that is weird as a kid you watch that & go okay, as an adult its like the hell is going on here.
you need to kill 3 people to be a cereal killer…. points gun… sorry thats just america…. returns gun back to simon.
So by the end of the film is there noone else working for Manchester police or being a body guard as they are all framed in this tape & murder or beaten up or held hostage(ish). It was good that when you think theyve lost the tape victor then turns up to save the day with the actual tape, from the earlier mix up. & that they took some of the money from the bank brilliant.
Any film that ends with David Bowie Heroes is stunning, it really is & the fact that everyone in the film is up dancing to it, does make you feel very proud.
Its still funny. I know its not the best story or acting ever, but it still holds a soft spot in my heart & makes me smile & think yea ive enjoyed that, despite how cringe some of it is now looking back. Its not partridge but it does fill the gap.
